Guest guest
, you are so right! I do exactly as you described--I consider myself a blackbelt tightwad. When we lived in WA during the last recession [and I believe it's still going on despite what the media there will tell you], I had to feed my family of 5 from the foodbank, foodpantries, and day old veggies[actually still in really good nutritional shape] left behind the local veggie stand [which I asked the manager for permission to take for my pets]. Believe it or not, I got really creative with finding healthy foods, and only had to spend $$ at the grocery for mostly discounted meats. I am the loss leader cherry picker of the world, lol. My family got to eat all the free starches, and I would just make an extra veggie for myself instead. We all ate VERY WELL. I recall one December only spending $75 for food--the rest was procured by me I still shop agressively down here in the metro Phoenix area, our veggie prices are fantastic every week, and several stores will compete head to head on food. I spend about double that now [no foodbanks or pantries for us now, nor WIC], but still am able to stay on a healthy diet. Ask me how many ways are there to cook chicken breasts, legs, wings? lol quite a few!! or pork, ground beef, other beef cuts? in fact, you have just inspired me to pick up some wings for the crockpot tommorrow. Remember everyone-the deep freezer is your FRIEND!!! ha ha-gotta run and make dinner for the kiddos! Lillian Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
