This would be very difficult b/c TPN has to be slowly ramped down at the end of the infusion to prevent low blood sugar. Most patients on TPN need to go through this procedure for this reason. It is actually very common for people to get low blood sugar after their TPN infusions if they haven't slowly decreased the rate when coming off of it. It would be hard to stop it for an hour and start it again while increasing and decreasing the rates constantly, although it was a very good thought! I have often wished that I could do it that way many times....kinda make it a little more similar to breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
