Guest guest
Rice cakes are pretty boring, I agree. I like Trader Joe's rice crackers (like real snack crackers) although they sometimes have a CYA factory statment. I have never had a reaction, if that's worth anything. Otherwise there are the almond/ pecan rice crackers by Blue mountain (i think) that are a little rich for me, but some people like them. They are also like " real " crackers. Some people are more cautious than I am re: chips for fear for cross contamination. I have eaten plain lays, fritos, ruffles, tostitos, and kettle chips without incident. I really like the gourmet blue potato chips, taro & other root chips. Some of these companies are weirdly reticent to state that their products are gluten free, but it seems that they are. (But you shouldn't necessarily base your decision on my personal experience..) Some flavored chips seem ok but you have to be very careful when reading the ingredients. You can also have most microwave or packaged popcorn, or even pop your own (probably the safest, cheapest, and freshest). You can be really creative with toppings- I had a super yummy Fresh rosemary popcorn recipe I made last year... If you have one in your area, go to a Whole Foods or other good health food store and just wander the chips and cracker aisle. There should be lots of chip options once you read the label. Crackers are more of a challenge, but you never know what you will find. Re: cereal, many people seem to have good luck finding a few mainstream sugary cereals by reading labels carefully. For myself, it's not worth the effort (no kids), so I eat Envirokids cereals that are labeled GLUTEN FREE. (cocoa, peanut butter, and corn puffs) Also, I like Mesa SUnrise cereal for a " healthy " alternative, if you can find it. There are other GF corn flakes (health food section, labeled gluten free) but I'm just not that excited about them or rice puffs. You can also try hot cereals- rice, quinoa, even corn grits. > > Can someone give me a list of safe chips and cereal PLEASE. Guest guest
Lays Stackers are really good. You could also go for Fritos and Cheetos. Lately we've been snacking on 2 items that we found at Cornerstone Nutrition. One is a round cracker made from aged cheese. The other is a rice cracker (NOT a rice cake) favored with sundried tomatoes and cheese. Both are great. Can't remember their names for the life of me. BRENT/JOHN (Cornerstone guys): can you give us the name of these 2 items? Guest guest
We eat a lot of chips at our house - favorite snack for all. I have also bought the Vegetable Sticks in the snack isle at Whole Foods (can't remember the brand - possibly 365??) They taste like french fries & are crispy like cheese puffs. Yummy! > > > > Can someone give me a list of safe chips and cereal PLEASE. Guest guest
Sandy, I think the round cracker from aged cheese is the one by Kitchen Table Bakers. I'm not sure about the rice crackers you are talking about.... Are they round, rectangular, etc? More than likely, I have a box in ourh house.... just can't figure out which one you're talking about. Guest guest
If you live on the East coast around PA or MD, you can get UTZ brand chips in any grocery store, drug store, or gas station, and they say gluten free at the bottom of the ingredient list. I have bags of the BBQ, sour cream and onion, and plain, and they all say gluten free! -

The sun-dried tomato is rectangle - asian company if I'm not mistaken. > > > Date: 2006/03/07 Tue PM 03:16:52 EST > To: SillyYaks > Subject: Re: Safe Chips ????? > > Sandy, I think the round cracker from aged cheese is the one by Kitchen Table Bakers. Guest guest
I find that I am fairly tolerant of foods, but had cramping after eating Lays Stackers eventhough they are labeled as being GF. Guest guest
I don't get cramping, but Lays Stackers don't agree with me either. I'm figuring it's something about either the fats they use or how they're cooked.DeeOn 3/7/06, randy brodsky wrote: I find that I am fairly tolerant of foods, but had cramping after eating Lays Stackers eventhough they are labeled as being GF. Guest guest
UTZ has a lot of GF products. They even have a web page dedicated to Celiac and their GF products. I also believe they mark right on the bags that this is a gluten free food. http://www.utzsnacks.com/Productinfo.shtml Judy Gettysburg PA From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ] On Behalf Of n Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 2:34 PM To: SillyYaks Subject: Re: Safe Chips ????? Guest guest
I have had a problem with Lay's plain chips. Several years ago I got glutened by them and stopped eating them for about a year. Then I got tired of the Season's from Whole Foods (which don't seem to bother me but aren't quite as good) and tried Lay's again. Did fine until about a month ago and got zinged again by Lay's. It looks like you just take your chances on getting cross contaminated once in a while. Shirley in San Diegoseamaiden399 wrote: Rice cakes are pretty boring, I agree. Guest guest
You should be able to eat tortilla chips. Here's a good snack idea: make the chex mix recipe, only just use nuts and other things you can eat. I can get a rice chex knock-off that is OK. I don't know about genuine rice chex. I haven't done this to popcorn, but can't see any reason it wouldn't work. My son loves the hot mix chex recipe, so that is the one I make. Tapatio is the family favorite hot sauce, so I couldn't tell you if Tabasco is OK to use or not. I just use Tapatio in the chex mix. I like the chili cheese Fritos, which are a big resounding NO, but I can eat regular Fritos and I can sprinkle them with some cheese powder, chili powder and a pinch of garlic and they are better than store bought, because I load on the cheese powder. I use the home made chili cheese Fritos for croutons in my taco salads. Fritos would be good in the hot chex mix. One of my local stores puts one gallon cans of mixed nuts (no peanuts) or cashews on sale all the time for $12. I buy those and a handful of nuts takes care of the munch in front of the TV cravings. Costco sells a really good rice cracker, if you can afford them. (Gads they are expensive.) It broke my heart to see rice crackers for $1.25 a pound in the bulk bins, only to discover they contained soy sauce with wheat. Sigh. best wishes Chris Safe Chips ????? Guest guest
I forget to mention fruit, either dried of fresh. 2-3 dried apricots or a handful of Craisins make a delicious snack, involving no work at all. best wishes Chris ----- Original Message ----- I'm about to go crazy trying to find something to snack on, you can only ear so many rice cakes.
