Guest guest
Hi Daryll Anne Your welcome i thaught it might be fun to do the chart we might find out we have more in common than we think . But unfortunatly im beginning to think some do not think this should be done here but so be it im doing this with good intentions nothing in it for me but the enjoyment .This group helps us so we dont feel alone and this will help that even further GEO Geo/Connecting the Dots Hi Geo, I am a lurker. My mom has PLS and I have learned so much through PLS Friends. You are a wonderful group of people with great courage and a great sense of humor. I would appreciate it if you would add Mom to your list. Her name is Peggy Hann. She is 72, 5'2 " , she has hazel eyes, brown hair and is mostly of Russian and German descent. She is right handed, but the symptoms started in her left leg. There is no known family history of any neurological disease. She is a retired banker and her first " big " symptom started at age 68 when she got up immediately following a difficult eye laser surgery and her left leg was dragging. Now she realizes that she had many less noticeable symptoms before. Thanks for making this chart...trying to keep warm in land...Daryll Anne ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Darryl Anne, Welcome aboard! It's good that you are seeking information as I know this will help your mom. She is very blessed to have a child like you. Hang around and if you need encouragement that's what we are here for or whatever. Tell mom she is not alone. Take care. God Bless Yolanda Geo/Connecting the Dots Hi Geo, I am a lurker. My mom has PLS and I have learned so much through PLS Friends. Guest guest
Hi Geo, I am a lurker too, and I have PLS. I am 40 years old, blue eyes blonde hair, English/polish decent. I am right handed and the symptoms started in my right leg. I do not recall a family history of neurological illnesses. I have never worked with chemicals but have been in stressful positions as I am a social worker sometimes providing crisis intervention to distressed clients. I also have had many stressful situations in my life including an abusive childhood. I abused alcohol during my childhood and adolescence, but have been 20 years sober as of December 2003. My biggest symptom occurred after my leg landed deep in the snow as it fell off my cross-country ski. Upon trying to get back on the ski, I ended up twisting my knee and needing to attend physiotherapy. At that point I was referred to my first neurologist at the age of 23 because the physiotherapist thought that I had a " strange gait " . However, I tended to be " clumsy " throughout my earlier years with poor balance and a great talent for finding any hole in any playground to twist my ankles in. I seemed to enjoy falling down stairs too and this wasn't related to my drinking... honestly! Thanks for putting a chart together! Guest guest
Hi Kelli im sorry your childhood was'nt good But this should strengthen your resolve to not let that kind of behavior carry on .You know what current thought is that people who came from abused families tend to carry it on .My sweety had such a childhood and mine was the opposite .so we talked alot about this in our marriage to this day i do not like my Father in law as i was always taught to avoid people who act this way .I was not the perfect Dad but i always strived to avoid a violent situation my son and i had one once as his so calle friends got him into drugs and he became aggressive .so i ended up doind the right thing having him removed by the police mostly because i was'nt going to let him win ..He moved to Portland and lived like a drugy like he always wanted got his fill of that kind of life .Thank God he is still alive .He now works 3 jobs i think mostly to stay clean .you know what they say an idle mind is the devils workshop ..I used to waterski until i got this i tried tubing last year thinking it might be easier but almost drowned myself GEO Re: Geo/Connecting the Dots Hi Geo, I am a lurker too, and I have PLS. Guest guest
Thanks Geo for your comments regarding my post, that was a very nice email to greet me at the start of the day! Regarding your chart, I forgot to put the year of my diagnosis (1998) and the real symptoms began around 1986 but these were very mild in comparison to what I deal with now (use of walker in home, 2 canes when I need to in case of less accessibility, wheelchair most often at other locations). My progression has been extremely slow and remains in my legs. Have a great day and evening! Guest guest
Wow Joe, that is so early! Would you mind sharing what was happening for you at that time in terms of symptoms? Sometimes I feel like I had mine from birth but it could have been a mild form of cerebral palsy as my first diagnosis suggested. They just assumed that all my falling and injuries were me being clumsy. Regards!
