Hi,

Have not been online in awhile had a rapid downhill spiral. in December

found out that i broke my back in 4 different places i n the throacic area

and have mild spondolollotheswis?? in the L5 S1 area. Have started taking

some medicine to build bone density but am now in a hospial bed -- they sa y

teh medicine (actonel) very similiar to fosamas may take up to 4 month to see

some change in density. Have anyone!!!!!????? havve this two deal with and

are any of you on any of this medication -- i have horrendus pain and am on

painkiller beside the morhine and am trying so hard just not to come

completly contract --- any advice or suggest or personal experiene will be

MUCH MUCH APPRECIATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just want to tell you that you have been missed...We always worry if our

fellow listmates have not been posting.

I don't have any personal experience to relate. I do have progressive

scoliosis and other back problems, but nothing that matches your

experience.

Could a pain specialist do some intrathecal injections into your spinal

column for pain relief? At this juncture, I'd recommend an

anesthesiologist.

Good to see you posting again. I am sorry you have gone through so much. I have not had any experience with this, all I have is mild scoliosis. Sorry that I can not give any advice, but I am thinking of you.

I have L5/S1 problems, including past surgery and more recently

spondyloliasis. The supplement methyl sulfonyl methane (MSM) seems

to help with the pain from my spine and hip arthritis.

I know there are now injectable anti-osteoporosis treatments that are

better tolerated than Fosamax and oral medications. Make sure you

are being monitored for side effects from medication too.

Back pain is terrible - I've given birth twice without anesthesia and

back pain, especially right after the surgery, was worse. Actually,

I'm lying, because I had one shot of Stadol during the first

delivery, and it made me unconscious for a few minutes. Very scary

to wake up in the middle of labor and not remember where you are or

why you're in pain. I think it was a reaction related to mito

problems - it was supposed to just dull my pain a little and I was in

a brief coma instead.

Eileen,

my husband is in the same boat as you, He broke his back in two places in the thoracic region also has moderate disc disease in his neck and lumbar region. he has been laid up for 4 weeks now unable to work or do much of anything.

He goes to the orthopedic spine surgeon in two weeks. we are very anxious to hear if he can help him. I sure hope the both of you get better soon.

Gee um, yep, weird reactions to being given meds during delivery do kind of

seem familiar! Of my 5 csections, there were 2 that I was knocked out, and

I had extra pain problems with one, (bad reaction to anesthesia I am sure)

and the other, I kept going blind for moments at a time, where my vision was

so blurry I couldnt see.
