Yes, I did use birth control pills to control fibroid symptoms. They worked

for a couple of months, but then my periods got longer and heavier with more

clots. Even when I would start a new pack of pills, I would still be

bleeding. By the time I had UAE in Nov, my last period was 13 days.

I did. They started me on Yasmin and it worked for one month only

and now I spot every day and my periods are back and just as heavy

and the clotting even worse. I know some women have success with it

but I was not fortunate. That is why I am looking into surgery.

I was on BCPs for a long time to *regulate* my periods, and it seemed to help

for a while with the bleeding. However, I reached a point where I was bleeding

while on the pills and passing clots as large as my fist. I changed GYNs and she

immediately did v & Abd. ultrasounds and found that one of my fibroids was a

pedunculated one just above the cervix. She put me on continous active bcps

(loestrin, then later microgestin) taking 3 packs in a row before having a week

off for a period. She also did a d & c and hysteroscopy with resection of that

pedunculated fibroid. My symptoms were alleviated for about 2-3 years. This past

year I was miserable and started bleeding through the pills. I had my UAE 11/12,

and the jury is still out on the bulk symptoms, but both periods were extremely

light (I went off BCPs the end of the week after my UAE when I finished that

pack). I don't know if the decreased bleeding was due to the removal of the

fibroid, the bcps or both. Some have reported growth of their fibroids while

trying the bcps.

At the age of 36, I started bleeding really heavy from fibroids. I

went on the Birth Control Pill and it helped me considerably until I

turned 40....then all hell broke loose.

I can say that it is a good way of putting off treatment but probably

not preventing the necessity of treatment. For me, I had UAE

recently at the age of 41 and five years ago this would not have been

an option since it was still experimental at the time.

Hi and welcome. I too am a 15 yr survivor. We do have a sister group for Stage IV ladies if you would ever be interested in joining them also.

I took BC pills back in 63/64 but have no idea anymore what they were even called. Maybe some of the other ladies can help you out. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS

Hello Sisters,I am a 15 year survivor whose breast cancer metastasized to my bones after having a lumpectomy 10 years ago. I am Stage IV but doing well on Zometa and Faslodex but my question to you all is about a survey that I am trying to do regarding birth control pills.I took "Ovulin 21" back in the 60's and 70's for over 10 years. At that time there were dangerous levels of estrogen, that we were unaware of, which I feel contributed to my "estrogen positive" growth of tumors. You may know that very recently there has been news about the "patch" being used for birth control. It said that the levels of estrogen "may contribute to some forms of illnesses". I would like to know if anyone over 50 years old, who have estrogen positive breast cancer took those, or any, birth control pills earlier in their life.Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you all and another year of living!

Hello , Just finishing up six sessions of TAC chemo. I am 76 years old and have estrogen positive breast cancer. I have been gene tested and it was negative for breast and ovarian cancer although I now have had both. Ovarian in the 70's. I was heavily into estrogen both in the 60's and then throughout the 80's and 90's (premarin both pill and cream) until we were finally made aware that it was more dangerous than helpful (cholesterol and heart health) I also am suspicious! I have always been very active and eaten most sensibly. I do wonder how much is still being perscribed????. We may be the statistics that prove something!!!! Hello, Yes, I took birth control pills as that was what women did to not get pregnant in 70's-80's. Very possible that could have contributed to a lot. I should have took the warnings about estrogen replacement but said that won't happen to me. It is all by chance.
