Guest guest
These posts about meals we used to eat (before WW) that were horribly unhealthy has gotten me to thinking. I used to eat without abandon, and then I would wonder why I was gaining weight. I felt I ate like a normal person--yea, a normal NFL linebacker. I would go to this country buffet we have here once every week or so (it's called Brown's Country Kitchen) and have fried catfish, french fries, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried corn on the cob, mac & cheese, rolls with butter, and about three desserts on top of all that! Hello, arteries, are you calling? I would go to Outback about once a month and have the appetizer with french fries covered in cheese and bacon, then a salad with bread, then the Alice Springs Chicken, and possibly a dessert. Oh my GAWD! At my favorite mexican place (we ate there every friday): tons of cheese dip, salsa, and chips. Then, two enchiladas, two tacos, rice, and beans. Plus a couple margaritas. One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday night was eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's Cherry . Not the low fat yogurt kind, either. It's over 20 points for the pint! I used to have it after dinner. How did I ever get all that food in my tummy? Eating that way now would make me barf. I go to these places still, but I eat reasonably and count my points. I have a friend that I saw at a Christmas party this past weekend, he is about 30-40 pounds overweight, but he was telling us how he just got his cholestoral checked and it was 302, and had been as high as 320 on one occasion! He's under 35. I asked him what he was going to do and he said " I'll go on a diet, but I'm living it up until after the holidays! " I think that is a lot of people's plan. This party was given by a friend of mine that goes to WW with me. He had invited everyone and announced it was going to be a " healthy " meal. He made a wonderful low-point chicken casserole with wild rice. The others of us each brought a side dish (I made a 3 point per serving sweet potato casserole), another brought salad. The friend with the cholesteral problem, he brought a spinach dish with heavy cream and two kinds of fat-laden cheese in it. It was just so sad. He didn't even see the irony.
