Just be sure to go back until they fit correctly

Laurie,

That's very good advice. Yes, I thought it was timely that I had posted about those socks last night.

a,

Thanks! It's always nice to hear these things from people who know what they're talking about. It should be interesting to see what an orthopedic surgeon has to say.

I take 200 mg twice a day of the Lamictal. Your post on the AFO socks was

timely. Just be sure to go back until they fit correctly. Most of us moms do

it for our kids, but forget to give ourselves the same treatment.

I'm glad it was a good appointment.

I am glad your appointment went well today. I have AFO's on both legs and a KFO on my right leg. I ended up with the AFO's, as I was always spraining my ankles and never healing from them. They do help. Good luck with everything!

I just wanted to let you guys know how our appt. went today, but I'll let mom tell you about her appt. It went really well. The doc wants me to be seen by an orthopedic surgeon. He thinks I either need to be casted or get AFO's and possibly both. He just feels that 6 weeks is adequate time to heal and that it's definitely not healing and there's some weakness in the right as well.We talked about my increased migraine/headache/aura issues and he decided to increase my dose of Lamictal from 150 2x's daily to 200 mg's 2x's daily.I think that's about it that was significant. We have appt's to go back in 6 months. All that worrying and it went really glad. PHEW!!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest pushing for AFOs before surgery. Kent had the surgery to

stabilize his ankle (he was 19) and within the first month he was fitted

with AFOs, as the surgery gave way. It wasn't the surgery, just his body. It

was mainly from his Ehuler Danlos, but mito certainly could have come into

play.

Kent's was called an active AFO. It had a hinge to allow him to push on the

ankle on the accelerator, but it stabilized the sideward movement of his

ankle, yet allowed a normal heal strike gait.

a,

This is the reason the MDA doctor wants to see

the orthopedic surgeon. Her ankle is not healing well

and because she's favoring it, the other ankle has

weakened. He tested her and feels that after 6 weeks,

she should not be dealing with so much ankle weakness.

He indicated that she may need to go into a cast

and/or AFO's. She's always had weak ankles and knees

so none of this surprises me.
