LOL I'm not all that familiar with the treatment of Diabetes...always left that up to Glenn..which he never did!!! I need to do some research, I guess. What is a sliding rule with the insulin?? Where you take so much and then test again and if it's still high, take another dose?? That's basically what dr. told Glenn to do to get it down to at least 150. Not alarmed, Kaye, but enlightened....and thank you so much for butting in!!! LOL This guy is NOT an easy patient to deal with, but I'm trying. Guest guest
thanks for the kind words...I have been taking Erbitux over 3 months now...I had a rash on my face(not bad) and in my hair, some on my arms and chest...but I used Benedryl cream on it all and it really helped...I have NO OTHER side effects..and the rash is nothing compared to diarrhea, etc...I can not take CPT11 with Erbitux so I am taking it alone...CPT 11 was almost fatal when I took it almost 2 years ago....since being on erbitux.my CEA was 162 and went to 95 in 5 weeks ..and has come down some more.....all my other blood work is good and so is my kidneys and liver functions...so we just keep taking it....I can not take Avastin as I have had several problems with blood clots.. hang in there and.hugs, kaye Re: Unhappy situation.....scared the man.- Kaye > > > > In a message dated 2/12/2005 1:34:03 PM Eastern Standard Time, > kayeskuts@i... writes: > > Decadron for sure !! my sugar numbers were up over 700..very bad as you > know..had to have 2 pills a day and 5 and sometimes 6 shots a day....steroids > make sugar go up...it did not matter what I ate it would go up for about 3 days > after treatments... > sometimes I feel I am butting in if someone has a name in front to > someone...but I would rather be told to butt out than set here and might be able to > help..you know what I mean...I do not know anything about the other > medicine..but do know about decadron..I am now on erbitux alone and doing good...also > the oxaliplatin is given in a bag of glucose...it will not work with > saline...and you know what glucose is.....don't mean to alarm you but maybe need to > push the subject with the dr. more...some oncologist do not know, but diabeties > drs.do...I was put on what they call a sliding rule with insulin.....hope > this helps...hugs, keep me posted..love ,kaye biggs > > > > Kaye...it certainly does help...and gives me something to go on when we see > the Onc on the 23rd. Guest guest
Well they did tell me that decadron and dextrose or whatever else they were giving me could raise my blood sugar, but evidently it doesn't so I am thankful, because it is one of my feel good drugs, takes all my joint aches away, and course helps me breathe a little better .. Guest guest
Kaye You are an inspiration for sure, going on over 5 years. Galen started his trek thru all of this 5 years ago. You said you are getting along on Erbutux, I am glad of that. I read the stories in hear by everyone and tell Galen about them, and how they handle different situations it really helps to hear from someone who has experienced it. He is going to start the Erbutux hopefully, the Onc wants to put him on it. Have you experienced any ill side effects from it. I have read some things about bad rashes etc. I think that sort of made me leary. I was just wondering! Take Care & Hugs to you! Guest guest
Kaye Thanks so much for answering my question! I don't write a lot in here, but try to keep up reading,I never know what to say with out putting my foot in mouth!! lol Kind of relieves the anxiety of hearing from some one that the Erbitux may not be as bad as the cpt11 is! I think they will give it alone to him also. I wrote the Benadryl cream down & going to keep it handy for when he starts that treatment. Only one more of the Cpt11 hopefully. His eyes are so hollow and lost 4 pounds this week after taking that first treatment of it. Knocked him for a loop! It sounds as if the Erbitux has really kicked that CEA level down of yours, so glad for you! I am going to tell Galen about you taking it, it will ease him also knowing that you are able to tolerate it without a lot of side effects. He didn't have to many problems with the Avastin when he was only taking it , but the dr. thought it was time to change. A Big Thank You again & Take Care Liz wife of galen stg 4 > > Hope I can help....Yes, the sliding rule is when you test your > blood sugar and if is a certain amount than you take a certain amount > of insulin...stress(((whatever that is)))))) makes sugar number go > higher too..I will be checking here to find what I can on the > meds...does he have a dr. for diabeties?? both of my drs. worked > together..my oncologist was not as aware of the meds as my diabeties > dr.....Your husband can have dizziness, shakes, times of just feeling > like crap, and that is mostly from diabeties ..and the meds making it > go so high..that is dangerous...sugar numbers that high can give you > yeast infections under the arms,etc....so if he itches that can be > from that...hugs,kaye...........yes, hang in there with him...I have > been doing this for over 5 years at stage IV..so we just have to stay > positive and look for answers..and you have a hard job too......my > husband had stage 2 colon cancer almost 18 years ago..he is fine and > still going strong....no problems but taking care of me > now...hugs,kaye > > Re: Unhappy situation.....scared > the man.- Kaye > > > > > > > > In a message dated 2/12/2005 1:34:03 PM Eastern Standard Time, > > kayeskuts@i... writes: > > > > Decadron for sure !! my sugar numbers were up over 700..very > bad as you > > know..had to have 2 pills a day and 5 and sometimes 6 shots a > day....steroids > > make sugar go up...it did not matter what I ate it would go up > for about 3 days > > after treatments... > > sometimes I feel I am butting in if someone has a name in front > to > > someone...but I would rather be told to butt out than set here > and might be able to > > help..you know what I mean...I do not know anything about the > other > > medicine..but do know about decadron..I am now on erbitux alone > and doing good...also > > the oxaliplatin is given in a bag of glucose...it will not work > with > > saline...and you know what glucose is.....don't mean to alarm > you but maybe need to > > push the subject with the dr. more...some oncologist do not > know, but diabeties > > drs.do...I was put on what they call a sliding rule with > insulin.....hope > > this helps...hugs, keep me posted..love ,kaye biggs > > > > > > > > Kaye...it certainly does help...and gives me something to go on > when we see > > the Onc on the 23rd.
