Dear :

I used to wear contacts for many years then my eyes got dry (doc said so, I

have no discomfort except when lenses are in). THis preceded my diagnosis

with arthritis.

How do you wear lenses with dry-ish eyes? What kind do you wear? I hate

glasses and we are not eligible for laser surgery since cornea is made of

collagen and they won't do on anyone with RA because they are afraid of

" corneal meltdown. " Surgeon refused me, and of course, I'm glad cause I'd

rather have bad vision w/o glasses then none at all!

Hum curious about this statement as my ma is having a cataract removed on the

16th and I am sure she has reitiers and she is having lazer surgery. So if

you have any info I would like to see it as I don't much want a blind mama

Dear ,

Iwear accu-vue contacts but I still at times have to carry a bottle of

saline around to wet them down with during the day, especially if I take zyrtec

or benadryl, which i do sometimes when my sinuses bother me. My doc also went

with a contact that has a lower water content so it doesn't dry out as much.

Have either of you tried the new solution on the market called Complete.

It is the best I have ever used. I have very sensitive eyes and take my

lenses out as soon as I get home but with this I just clean them off

after work and can wear them all night.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do but accu vue are the thinnest and

have less water content than most others. I use a brand called Precision

UV and they are teriffic. They are daily wear and I get about 4 weeks

out of them before throwing away.

My $.02 worth. Even before I got RA I started wearing bifocal gas permable

contacts. They are wonderful!!! Now that I have RA (also on Placquinel which

contributes to dry eyes, plus being an old woman!) I haven't had any problems

with

my contacts. Gas permable lenses are suppose to allow more oxygen to your eyes

and

better moisture, and they are much small than the soft lenses. I never have to

re-wet my lenses. Just put them in the morning and take them out when I go to

sleep. You might want to check into these.

Thanks, I'll ask my optometrist about those lenses. Sorry it took so long to

Thanks to you too! Maybe mmy dry eyes is my age not my contacts! I have heard

of gas

permeable lenses but didn't know what they were. Wonder why the doc didn't

mention this

as an option? I'll find out when I call him , Thanks T.

Dry eyes can also be caused by an autoimmune condition called Sjogren's

Syndrome which can cocur alone or in conjunction with other connective tissue

diseases such as RA, lupus, scleroderma, etc. So if you have dry eyes,

please discuss this with your dr.
