Guest guest
Hi! In July I had my annual GYN appointment and I complained of fatique and bloating. I found out that I was severly anemic (Hmc 6) and it was because I was bleeding so heavily each month (12 tampons and numerous pads in one hour at times.) This is a story that most of you are familiar with so I wont bore you with the details. My vaginal ultrasound indicated several fibroids. One is over 10cm (in the uterine wall) and two others are around 3cm (also in the wall.) The largest one is so big that it has pushed my fundus (top of the uterus to the side and my tip of the uterus is sideways. (It was nearly impossible to have a pap smear done and I was a little scared when I saw the look on my doctors face)We realized that the fibroid had grown (doubled in one year) There is a lot of pressure and my back pain is getting more and more severe. My GYN's first choice for me was a hysterectomy and she said, " you are done with babies right? So get that thing out of there! " ...when I protested she wrote down my options but UAE was listed so far down on the list. In her choice of order it was Hysterectomy,Myomectomy, abelation, D & C, UAE, birth control pills, then PGC shots. I know I need to do something about this ASAP. I think I am ready to do the UAE but I'm nervous. I've read so many pros and cons to this.Insurance is no problem, I just need to feel that I am making the right decision. So here are my questions. Has anyone had the same simular " starting point " as I have presented here. If so, did the UAE reduce the large fibroid so significantly that the uterus straightened itself back to the correct position. Did your fibroids shrink away to nothing and absorb back into the body. I do not hear of anyone actually saying they are 100% gone-just reduced. Am I aiming my hopes to high to believe that this " Golden Egg UAE " will erase these nasty fibroids 100% with out all the invasive surgerys? Hoping for some good news. Thanks for bearing with this long note.
Guest guest
Hello Miriam, I'm in a similar situation, so I wanted to offer you some support and small amount of advice. First, in my opinion, your doctor is way out of step with the times in offering hysterectomy as a first choice option. Good for you for protesting!!! Yes, it gets rid of fibroids completely, but so would having a friend cut you in half with a chainsaw....you wouldn't do that, either My point being Hyst. is the only solution which completely guarantees no more tumors BUT today, that is no longer acceptable as the best reason to have this surgery. Let me encourage you to read the archives here and to go to as many websites and continue to read read read. I also suggest you call some of the universities or hospitals (websites should have contact info) to ask your questions. These places are just too happy to answer your questions since it means potential business for them. I had, at first, considered UAE, but because it does not completely get rid of the tumors I ruled it out (my personal decision). I'm sorry, there is no " golden egg " : if there were, this website wouldn't be as extensive as it is. There are others here who have had success with UAE eliminating their symptoms, which may be a comfort to you as a trade off for not completely getting rid of the tumors. But please be aware that not all of the UAE procedures have happy endings (my apologies to the advocates of UAE). Each of the options your doctor listed have good and bad points, you need to find what fits into your personal situation. Oh, and while I'm not a doctor, the D & C suggestion is probably not at all feasible solution if the tumors are intramural (that would be one heck of a D & C, I'd think). I'm sorry you're in such discomfort. Best of luck to you, M > Hi! > In July I had my annual GYN appointment and I complained of fatique > and bloating. Guest guest
It's interesting that your doctor puts ablation and D & C ahead of UAE since neither procedure has an impact on fibroids. > Hi! > In July I had my annual GYN appointment and I complained of fatique > and bloating.
