Guest guest
I don't know that there is a good list anywhere, but there is an awesome website that gives the true counts. It is the USDA database. http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl is the address. But my new pocket carbcounter, as well as the product labels themselves often say zero carbs perserving when I know some of you have said 0.5 per serving etc. Is there agood list of these not-really-zero foods that I can write down in my carbbook? Thanks in advanceKamden(
Guest guest
That was a great link, . Guest guest
The easiest way to suss out if a 0 carb label is true is to ask yourself whether the whole product is either fat or the muscle of some animal. Anything else will have some amount of carbs in it. A quick trip to the USDA database will let you know just how much. Kirstie
Guest guest
Also, just to add a lil to that, doing the math doesn't hurt either. Total calories = (total fat x 9) + (total protein x 4) + (total carbs x 4). If the numbers don't add up, the excess is definitely carbohydrate. I always chuckle at how crystal lite says it's 0 protein, 0 fat and 0 carbs but the total calories is 5. Hmmmm.... those 5 calories have to come from *somewhere* don't they? ROFL they're obviously carbohydrate so I count crystal lite as 1 carb per 8 ounces. Just my $0.02 -Marlena (always looking for her change from those two cents contributed!) > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: <Atkins_Support_List > >Subject: RE: question about hidden carbs >Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 20:00:46 -0300 > >The easiest way to suss out if a 0 carb label is true is to ask yourself >whether the whole product is either fat or the muscle of some animal. >Anything else will have some amount of carbs in it. Guest guest
The ones that get me are the bars! Sad to say... that blasted glycerine makes my blood sugar levels jump like crazy! I about did a flip when I did the math and found that even though they say 2 or 2.5 carbs, they actually calulate out to 15 or 17.... Do they even make any without the glycerine? --- Marlena M wrote: > Also, just to add a lil to that, doing the math doesn't hurt either. Guest guest
I would think not. The glycerine is used to keep them moist and give them the proper consistency. Although some people would probably question this if they feel the bars are dry and have the consistency of cardboard ;-) -Marlena > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: RE: question about hidden carbs >Date: Thu, 7 Jun 2001 00:24:31 -0700 (PDT) > >The ones that get me are the bars!
