>GABA is EXCELLENT, IMO. It works very, very well. You can buy it any

health food store, but it tastes good, so if it works, you can order it

online here for much cheaper: www.beyondacenturyonline.com This is an

excellent mom and pop shop with great products that truly work for

great prices. GABA tastes sweet.

You can start with 1 500 mg capsule and increase it from there.

Sometimes taking too much has the opposite effect, so just take 1

please and see what happens before popping another! I can take 2 no

problem. It does work best on an empty stomach. In fact, I would just

open the capsule up and dump it into your mouth in the AM so it works

even more quickly. The other things about GABA is that if you take a

tad too much, it will make you feel flush and a little short of breath.

This only lasts a few minutes, but it's scary the first time, so you

want to avoid that! Better to take more capsules spread out throughout

the day.

Other amino acids that are calming are theanine and taurine. Again,

both available in health food stores or at the link above. Theanine is

MUCH cheaper bought in bulk at the link and also tastes good. Taurine

is sort of bland, but not disgusting. ;) You can take as many capsules

of theanine as you need it's so mild. The limit on taurine is about 4

grams, so read the label.

And let's not forget the amino l-tryptophan! Yes, it's back on the

market and perfectly safe! This can be QUITE sedating! But it also

calms you down. AND it builds seratonin, which may help with your

depression and mood until you get your adrenals under control and can

get onto thyroid meds.

Valarien will help calm you down, too, as will passion flower (my

personal fave as it's mild and works well, at least for me.) >

Hi Kathleen,

Could you clarify which of these you would take for sleep? I have no

trouble really falling asleep, though sometimes I wake up within 1/2 hour

of falling asleep and have some trouble falling back; but my main problem

is waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back

asleep. I take Ativan but would like to switch to something less toxic.

It doesn't always work, either. Sometimes I take a stress dose of 2.5

with the ativan and that sometimes helps. Of course, I do eat a snack

before bed and also when I wake up; I also take extra magnesium and use

transdermal mag too to help fall back asleep. Some success with all.

But if there are some aminos for sleep issues and LOW cortisol, I'd

really appreciate that information. Also, are you thinking Passion

Flower would work for falling back asleep?

Thanks,

Dahlia
