Relapse/Antibiotics for livestock

Hi,

I'm an old timer on the list (Hi Lizbeth!), I've been with it since its

beginnings, and 90% of the time I've been a lurker. In 1997, after

symptoms for 7 years, I was diagnosed with a mycoplasma infection (or a

mild type of Lupus with negative ANA) at Dr. Franco's office and started

the AP with erythromycin. 1 1/2 years later I quit the antibiotic

because I was symptom free and having problems with yeast (painful

sores in my mouth). I stayed symptom free the last couple years except

for occasional minor finger and toe pain which seemed to be related to

what I ate (milk would trigger it). Since about two months ago the pain

in joints large and small, morning stiffness, migranes, night sweats,

brain fog, tendonitis, raynouds and fatigue have returned. Still, it's

mild, comparatively, and I can continue my usual activities, it just

takes more effort and some recovery time.

I have started treating myself with tetracycline (Terramycin) from the

feed store. The Merck manual lists Terramycin as effective against

mycoplasmas. I have heard that the quality of antibiotics at the feed

store is the same as for humans but am not sure if this is true. The

terramycin costs pennies, whereas, a trip to Dr. Franco costs hundreds

of dollars and several days off work and a long drive in the car on

painful hip joints. I have bought a bag for $5 and stuffed 00 capsules

each holding 50mg of active ingredient, which is good for 4 months at

200 mg MWF. I am more worried about the inactive ingredients. 181 grams

of powder contain 10 grams of antibiotic. The package does not say what

the other 171 grams are composed of except that it is made to dissolve

in the drinking water of livestock. Any opinions, ideas, or

chastisements?
