That's a good idea Val. Unfortunately for me my big stress reducer, riding my horse, I can't do right now. Too many aches and pains from surgeries and stitches. I wish I could because riding her really helps me. Sadly I'm trying to sell her though. Just too much to deal with right now. So, I've taken up knitting. I'm not sure yet if it's stress reducing or not. I've decided to make chemo hats for patients at the local cancer center. I'll make them for free.

Janet...sorry to see that you are having to deal with thta pain. Stress is a BAD deal for all of us.

Many days it feels like a pie in the sky thing but I'm trying very hard to do one stress reducing thing a day that doesn't include eating comfort food. It may include cooking in some capacity because that just frees my mind.

June,

For me crocheting is very relaxing. I tried knitting years ago and gave up and my mil taught me the basic stitches of crocheting and I went from there.

I have a friend that sends me money for yarn and I donate all my lapghans/baby blankets. Since last March I have made over 160 of them. It keeps my mind busy and helps others at the same time. Have fun!

Note: forwarded message attached. I like to do knitting...it is relaxing to me...I knit when on the computer listening to music in a chat room or when I am waiting for appt. for dentist or dr... or if we go visit my boyfriends Dad. I made about 7 afghans last year...and an almost finished another one this year... I give them as gifts... use 10 1/2 round needles and 3 sceins of yarn super saver Red Heart...I knit one stitch and then purl one stitch...cast on 105

stitches...always start with a knit and end with a knit...knit, purl, knit, purl etc...... Then I single crochet around the edge 5 rows for a boarder of a different color that will blend in with the other colors. It makes a stretchy afghan...I like the varigated colors... Betsy (NC)

I use the Red Hart Super Saver also. Its the best yarn I can find. Sometime post a picture of your afghan in the photo section.

I know how to crochet, taught myself when I was like 15 or something. I've made hats and scarves but never could complete a blanket, LOL. But I really wanted to make the no hair day hats that someone posted about here a while back, sorry, I forget who. http://headhuggers.org/patterns/kpatt10.htm

There are a lot of women at the cancer center who wear head coverings that are barely adequate for the cooler weather. Since I live in CA the weather here doesn't get 'very' cold but still, they should have more adequate, yet fun, head wear. So I decided to attempt to make these funny, fuzzy hats. I finished my first one, kind of like the brown one in the pictures at the bottom of the page. I couldn't do the circular needles or the 4 needles, too inexperienced I guess, so I followed the pattern, which is pretty simple, with 2 regular needles and stitched it together. It still looks great. ;-) I'm also proud of myself, I taught myself how to knit. I don't know if I'll ever do anything big, but I'll make chemo hats for people.

I don't think it's relaxing at first because you try to concentrate to hard. I think after you get used to it, maybe it becomes more relaxing.

I'm going to try again with 4 needles this week.
