Guest guest
Hi Guys, Monday, my left arm was hurting so much I couldn't straighten it and it was red with a weird spot on the inner elbow. It feels better now, but yesterday when I woke up, patches like that weird spot were on my neck and under my right arm and on my right side. It's really gross, it looks like I've been burned. Now it's flaking and my face is also red and flaky. Luckily, it doesn't itch, but it is sore. Do you think this is just Graves' or is it because I changed from PTU to Tapazole 20 mg 3x/day last week? Is there anything I can do? It's not really rash-like, so I'm not sure what I should put on it. Thanks, Tori

Is there anything I can do? It's not really rash-like, so I'm not sure what I should put on it. Could be, I tend to show rashes to doctors/nurses or pharmacists if they loiter or are unusual. Sounds like ecmeza.... Pharmacists are usually the best with rashes, and they can often sell you a cure on the spot, but he may just say 'probably the drugs'. Nondescript boring rashes often occur with drugs, so pharmacists see a lot of them as well. I'm getting forgetful, weren't you on a massive dose of PTU before this massive dose of Tapazole? Hasn't this started having an effect yet? I saw effects at 3 days, from 45mg daily of Tapazole, I know this is quick, but it was a great feeling of not being poisoned, after years of thyrotoxicosis. Some weird hormone effects kick in if you drop thyroid hormone level quickly, it can be hard to distinguish these from drug side effects. If it concerns you enough see a professional. It could well be time to start thinking about dropping the dose if the hyperthyroid symptoms are gone. I've no idea why they bother making Tapazole in 20mg tablets, I guess some people must really need large doses for long periods, but I haven't met any yet, maybe it is for other forms of hyperthyroidism? Guest guest
Tori, My bottle of Tap comes with a warning to call doc if I developed yellowing of the skin, fever, sore throat or EXFOLIATIVE DERMATITIS....so I'd call your doctor. 60mg of Tap sounds like a very high dose to me. Good luck! Doris
Guest guest
Hi Simon, You crack me up! I can always count on smiling when I see a message from you. It's funny, you're right. It's probably an anxiety related rash. I get red, blotchy skin when I'm upset or nervous, so I could have gotten this weird rash-like thing from my emotional visit with Dr. Arem. I hadn't thought of that. You're not forgetful, I was on a massive dose of PTU (150 mg 3x/day), but Dr. Arem told me that I needed a stronger medication so he prescribed 20mg 3x/day of Tap instead of the PTU. He seemed totally unaffected when I told him my concerns of an unexpected pregnancy because I'm not on a reliable form of birth control and merely told me not to get pregnant. <sigh> I feel like the Tap has kicked in, but I still have some hyper symptoms. Dr. Arem wants me to drop the dose to 30mg/day after 3 weeks on the 60mg/day. I have 10mg pills so dropping the dosage will be easier. Thanks for the advice and humor, Tori In a message dated Thu, 25 Jul 2002 10:34:25 +0100, simon@... writes: > > Hi Guys, > > That must be me. > > > Do you think this is just Graves' or is it because I changed from PTU to Tapazole 20 mg 3x/day last week? Guest guest
Really?!? Dr. Arem said that if I developed fever & sore throat to call him. I have a sore throat all the time, so he said fever should be the warning sign. I'll call him today. Guest guest
Sore throat is a hyper symptom. So, I'd say that's why the fever would be the warning sign. An extremely sore throat with a high fever might indicate that your WBC count has lowered, which is a side effect of ATDs. Holly Re: Gross skin--is it Tap related? Really?!? Guest guest
Hi Tori. I found this post interesting as it sounds like something that I had years ago. What I had was called Pityriasis Rosea. If there is some funky skin condition out there, I'm sure to get it. It seems my skin is one of my weakest organs in/on my body. Could explain why I break out in a rash when I take PTU. I have attached a link for you to look at to see if it sounds like what you may have. Mine started with a patch on my neck, it looked like a hicky I was so embarassed, and then after a day or two, I woke up with patches in various other places on my body. It scared the @%# out of me. Let me know what you think. http://www.aad.org/pamphlets/pityrias.html in land L@... wrote: Hi Guys, Monday, my left arm was hurting so much I couldn't straighten it and it was red with a weird spot on the inner elbow. Guest guest
Hi , Thankfully, I don't think I have Pityriasis Rosea. As I was checking out the link you sent, I got all paranoid, thinking I surely had it and trying to get a good look at the yucky patches of flaky skin. They're all in hard to view areas, I can tell where they are by the feeling, even though I can't get a good look. So, I'm sitting on the bathroom counter in front of the mirror, cantorting my body in all kinds of funky positions, trying to get a look at the rough patches. Well, with these stupid glasses, I was never able to see well enough even when I finally got in position, and I was getting hot & frustrated, so I gave up. I asked my husband to look at my back and tell me if anything looked funny. The only thing he saw was some flaky skin. So, as far as I can tell, the only discolorations were on my right inner elbow and right side of my neck which have both faded, and my left side and left underarm which are still red, but are beginning to fade. There are still lots of patches of rough, flaky, scaly skin, but no other discolorations. At least that some good news! I couldn't stand it if I were covered in the rashes shown on that site.
