Guest guest
Hi Charlotte, Welcometo the group, but sorry you got diagnosed with IgAN to find your way here. Congratulations on your job opportunity! I hope you pass the physical, but I must say that I do not know of any wayto remove the protein or blood from your urine. Having blood and protein in your urine are pretty much par for the course with IgAN unfortunately. Good luck with the physical though. Please do let us know how it turns out. Oh, you may want to not exercise during the 24 hour. My Nephrologist always tells me to refrain from my exercise when I do my 24 hour collections. Guest guest
Hi Charlotte You can temporarily lower protein in your urine to some extent by not eating any and also, as suggested, not exercising before or during the collection, but blood, even just the microscopic variety, is going to be more difficult. I personally would not take fish oil pills, as I would be wary of more blood leaking into the urine with those. I don't think there's any scientific evidence either way, but they do " thin " the blood to a certain extent. Drinking more water will make you produce more urine, but it will still be the same urine with the same blood in it. It doesn't hurt to be well-hydrated though. Also, make sure your blood pressure is as low as possible. Take your BP meds religiously if you are on any, and, temporarily eliminate salt from your diet. Don't drink any caffeinated drinks. Good luck. There's always a chance you might squeak through. I remember doing these things for my last medical in the army reserve. They already knew I had blood and protein in my urine, and my goal was to have the lowest possible serum creatinine. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Guest guest
> My CHARLOTTE, I am concerned that you wrote the non-threatening but chronic blood in urine. when I was 20 I had microscopic blood in my urine and was told some women just have it. at age 31 I had headaches and found out I had severe hypertension and eventually had biopsy showing IGA and had only 20% kidney function left. You know you have IGA-watch your BP and keep up with being followed by doctors. also having protein isn't good either. I know only a small percent of IGA diagnosed pt's end up in renal failure but I have never heard of a non threatening type. as far as trying to improve your urine-I don't think there is anything short term. keeping hydrated and taking fish oil is a good start. I don't know why that would impact your job. I never had a problem getting jobs with having blood in urine and you already know why you have it. take care, christine name is Charlotte and I just signed up for this group.
