Guest guest
Welcome Deanna, I am so sorry to hear about your loss and I much like you am willing to let nature take its course. It took several years and lots of fertility treatments to get pregnant with my DD pre-op and post-op I still had to take clomid to O properly. We were able to concieve much sooner post-op but had already decided that if something should happen to the baby we would just let G_d work out his plan and let nature takes its course. I am wishing you lots of BABY DUST*~*~*~ hoping to hear of your new miracle in another few months. Christy in VA > Hi I am Deanna and 11 months post op from open rny. Guest guest
Deanna, I have been quiet for a while on this group. I suffered for 11 years with infertility and had resolved it in my heart and head that I would never have a child. Well..as surprises have it, five days before my 43rd birthday this year I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant. I lost this baby on Easter Sunday. I became pregnant again in May because I didn't listen to my doctor and lost it at 5 weeks. Due to the nature of the loss and the fact that it was a natural loss, they didn't put restrictions on me. I got pregnant again right away. Two days before my wedding in August I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum and I lost it the following week. My heart aches continually and I live daily with the anxiety of losing three babies and the fear of becoming pregnant again with the fear of losing it again. Listen to your doctor. Your body has to have time to heal or you will go through the same agony that I have gone through and it's not a pleasant journey. We are trying again and I will know in about two weeks if we were successful this time or not. It has been since the middle of August and the doctors have said that I can try again. You have waited a long time to get your life together with a body you can live with. I don't know what your age is but if its like mine and you are approaching the infertility range, a couple of months will not make a difference. You have proven that you can conceive. Let your mind settle down and accept what is going on in your system. Don't do what I did and put yourself through unnecessary agony. Just my opinion but you did ask My prayers are with you. Guest guest
Hi Annmarie, Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy. If you read the post I just sent to another one of the newly pregnant mommies, I feel that it is entirely possible and probable to have a healthy, happy pregnancy even if you are so soon out of surgery. Keep happy thoughts, talk to your doctors, get in your vitamins, and you and baby should be just fine. Good luck! Marcy new member Hi All, My name is Annmarie. I had an open roux en y on July 9th of this year. So I'm almost 5 months out. I just found out yesterday that I am pregnant. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, my husband is especially worried about the fact that I had my surgery so recently. We are both pretty worried. I was hoping some of you might have some encouraging words and advice for me. Thanks, Annmarie

Guest guest
Hi Annmarie, my name is Petra and I had the open RNY on May 13, 2002. I got pregnant about 8 weeks later. I am now 19 weeks and 3 days and healthy as I can be. My lab work has never looked better. I, too, was worried in the beginning, but after getting all the info from all the great ladies here, as well as having a great support group here in my town I am looking forward of becoming a bit " bigger " again. I still have been losing weight, but my docs are not too concerned if I don't loose it too fast. They said that it will even out with the Baby's weight...I take 2 Flintstones a day (cannot do prenatal and 2 tums - can also not tolerate milk products very well since I have become pregnant...LOL). Don't worry too much...go with the flow...everything will be fine...Ask your doctor a lot of questions - if you have to - write them down so you don't forget. Hugs, Petra > Hi All, > My name is Annmarie. I had an open roux en y on July 9th of this > year. So I'm almost 5 months out. I just found out yesterday that I > am pregnant. Guest guest
Hi barb, Welcome to the group, glad you found us. Sorry though that you and your son have mito. I've gotten alot of the same diagnosises as you though. I've been diagnosed as having RA, sjogrens, fibro, and lupus and a few other autoimmune/connective tissue diseases (they say its mixed connective tissue disease now). I dont think i have any of them even though i have alot of the symptoms of them. My mom also has an autoimmune disease- sarcoidosis and RA and lupus are in my family. but also seems my family has alot of the symptoms of mito so maybe we just have both genetically. we havent gotten the offical diagnosis of mito but we have many of the symptoms- im the most symptomatic with various things ranging from muscle weakness/pain, seizures, migraines, stroke like episodes, hearing/vision problems, endocrine problems, gi dysmotility, mild heart and lung probs, neuropathy, dysautonomia, and as a child hypotonia, developmental delays and so many other probs now and as a child, they just recently got worse past few yrs though. im on alot of meds now- mainly for symptoms but also for the autoimmune things too. sounds like your son is on the right cocktail and hope you get on one soon that works for you. anyways, glad you found this group and i know you will make plenty of friends, this is a great group! welcome aboard again! take care, adrienne

Guest guest
, I am glad you found us. I am sure that you will find many of us with similar symptoms. Some have been diagnosed, some haven't. Even with a confirmed diagnosis, there are still some questions with some doctors. :-) This is a great group of people. Very caring and quite knowledgeable. Smiles, a Mitochondrial Cytopathy, COX IV Deficiency (1995) and possible complex I and II.
Guest guest
Hi Carissa. I just wanted to welcome you and tell you that I'm and have 4 children with Mito as well as myself. I believe I know you from another list I used to be on a while back. It's a group about ADHD. Are you the same Carissa? Just curious because I do know your e-mail address from somewhere. Anyway, welcome. You've found a wonderful group here.
Guest guest
Hi Carissa, Yes all four have it. Let's see... both of my girls are 12 and 13 and their issues are similar.... is severely developmentally delayed and works at about a 6 year old level. is the 12 year old and is the same. has muscle issues, reflux, and her developmental issues are thought to be caused by the disease. has the same issues with severe headaches and mitral valve prolapse and has issues on her MRI of the brain. 's ADHD is thought to probably have been caused by the Mito and he has some significant muscle weakness from time to time... although he really pushes himself even when he shouldn't....... he has reflux (from time to time), migraines etc. He's 10. Branden my youngest is 5 almost 6. He has had multiple medical issues his whole life involving multiple infections such as ear, multiple respiratory etc.... has been failure to thrive and multiple other GI issues that have been somewhat brought into control but not resolved with surgery. I'm sure I'm missing some things but that's a rough draft of it. What are your kids issues?? Talk to you soon. I have to get to bed. Branden's having surgery in the morning and I have to get some sleep.
Guest guest
Hello , I'm sorry your Dad is so ill. Once he's home and feeling better I'm sure there will be options for him. I did some research on Avastin and Erbitux since my Mom is failing standard chemo treatments and this is what I found. I contacted the FDA regarding Avastin as a 3rd or 4th line treatment and this is their response: Thank you for your message to the Division of Drug Information at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), one of the five centers within the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). You are correct in that Avastin is FDA approved only as a first-line treatment for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. This approval is based upon clinical trials performed in support of that specific indication. The FDA is empowered by law to review drug products for safety and effectiveness. However, once approved, a drug product may be prescribed by a licensed physician for any use that, based on the physician's professional opinion, is deemed to be appropriate. This action is considered to be part of the practice of medicine. FDA does not regulate the practice of medicine and cannot comment on, or recommend, a course of treatment for any individual. Sincerely Division of Drug Information BS-100, Rockville, MD 20857 As you can see it's up to your doctor to determine if Avastin should be tried. It hasn't been tested other than 1st line but that doesn't mean it won't help. Also, Erbitux can be used alone. I've read that Erbitux with Camptosar has better results but Erbitux alone has helped shrink or stabalize tumors. Also, I've never read anywhere that a patient needs to fail another chemo in order to get Erbitux. I hope that your Dad feels better everyday and that these new drugs help him. Thinking of you and hoping for the best, Kat > By this time, Avastin and Erbitux had just come out. His Dr. scheduled him to go into the hospital to get Avastin only to get a call from the hospital (Swedish in Seattle) saying they will only give Avastin as a first-line treatment since that is what it was approved for. They had his biopsy examined and found that it is the type of cancer that Erbitux is used for but > he has to have irinotecan and have that fail before he is eligible for Erbitux

Guest guest
Hi and others, Avastin has been " tested " in my husband's case as 3rd or 4th line (I've lost track)trial and it stabilized his disease from October 2003 to March 2004. He will probably be unable to go on with the trial because of a stricture somewhere in his colon, making him ill. I also know that the other patient at our cancer center did well on it-(I was told his condition was similar to my husband's), as I kept asking about his progress. This information has probably not been reported officially anywhere yet-just our own personal experience. Certainly hope this is helpful. Remaining hopeful, Annie M > > By this time, Avastin and Erbitux had just come out.
