I would not even think twice, yes i would be induced early, in fact I have

already informed my doctor i want to go early because of my history of huge

kids, and I dont want to hemmorage like i have in the past. I was induced

with my youngest 2 weeks early because he already weighed 10 pounds..and it

was a fast and easy delivery, although I am not saying that all would be..and

there is a chance that it will be a longer labor...but in your case, I

would..good luck

Last week when I saw my doctor I asked what their policy is on inducement of

labor before the due date. She asked why. I told her that my son is having

his first Holy Communion two days before my due date, on Mother's Day, and

that I'm scared to death I'm going to miss this major milestone in his life.

Besides that, there is a tradition for our entire family to get together to

celebrate First Holy Communion's so we have 31 people flying in for a

mini-family reunion from all over the country. This would be the perfect

time to have extra helpers around the house to keep the kids entertained

while I recoup and spend time with the baby.

So, my doctor said that she would induce around the 38th week so I could be

recouped enough to be able to attend the Mass for my son whether or not the

baby is born vaginally. All three of my other kids were vaginal deliveries

so I wasn't even thinking about a c-section. She reminded me that I have to

keep it in mind as a possibility.

My other kids were all born AFTER their due dates but were all very healthy

weights at 8#7oz, 7#12oz, 7#10oz. So if this one would be approx the same

size at term then 2 weeks early it might be an entire pound less than those

weights. That is still healthy though right?

Would you do it? For those in the group who might have delivered 2 weeks

earlier than your due date I'd love to hear your stories.

Thanks,

I was induced early for both my pregnancies. I had 2 different doctors. The

first induced because my water had been slowly leaking and I was having

irregular contractions for 2 days. He was worried about infection, etc., so

he induced. My labor took about 15 hours.

The second pregnancy my new doctor induced a couple days early, since my

first daughter was 9 lbs. 14 oz, he was afraid my second would be even

bigger. She ended up being only 8lbs 15 oz. BUT, they had to induce me TWICE

with her. So, pitocin doesn't always work either. I went in at 7 am to be

induced and was sent home at 8pm that night and told to " come back in a week

if you don't go into labor before. " That was soooo frustrating. Then I did

the same thing a week later, and it wasn't working AGAIN. They even broke my

water this time. They were getting close to just doing a c-section when

suddenly and very quickly my daughter moved down the birth canal and was out

in 3 pushes and delivered about 11 PM.

I am going with the same doctor from my second daughter again, I really liked

him. But, I am concerned he may want to induce me again. He hasn't said

anything yet, but he also induced a friend of mine, for some reason too.

Nothing really health related. I'm thinking he may just do that so he is sure

to be at the hospital for the births? I just hope IF he induces, I don't have

to go through it twice again. It wasn't fun!

I don't know if that helps. But, that's my story.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Personally, NO. I would not want to be induced again. It was quite

painful, and in the end, neither my daughter nor my body were ready

for delivery. I ended up with a C-section... which in and of itself

was a nightmare. the anesthesiologist used my epidural line for the

spinal drugs, and it did not work. I had a C-section with nothing

for anesthesia but " Laughing Gas! " Now that I am pregnant again I am

told I have no choice. I will be having another C-section... not

looking forward to that. :-(

I hope you don't mind me asking, Pam. Why are you being told you have

to have another C-section? No chance for a VBAC?

at the hospital I used to work at, 90% of the babies are induced at

37 weeks. 38 weeks is considered " overdue " to us...lol

38 weks babies are almost ALWAYS fine. The ones that aren't, were

most likely not going to be ok anyway.

I had mine (I begged to have my c-section) 3 weeks and 4 days early.

He had a little problem initially and was in NICU for 4 hrs, but it

wasn't b/c of being a preemie. (many section babies have lots more

fluid in the lungs b/c it isn't squished out through the vagina as

it is delivered).

WITHOUT A DOUBT....If I get pregnant again, you can bet come 36-37

weeks, I will be back in the Dr's office with golf balls, gift

certificates and gift baskets like this time! lol lol lol

,

I am sure you are going to get a million different answers and the

truth is none of them will be a like...but I will give you my opinion on

the subject. I was induced on Feb. 25th and I was glad I was induced. The

whole process took a whopping 5 hours from the start of my pitocin till my

daughter was in my arms. :) I had a wonderful childbirth experience. Just

remember though that everyone is different. I am sure you will be fine.

Please keep us updated and when you have the little bundle of joy, e-mail

us when you can.

let me clarify....

" the hospital I used to work at, 90% of the babies are induced at

37 weeks. 38 weeks is considered " overdue " to us...

that is one reason I resigned from that job....

as far as begging to go early.... I felt so bad, I honestly felt

like I was dying a slow death....so I know my baby wasn't getting

the nutrients he needed to be healthy. I felt that was the safest

option for us.

well my first baby was a month overdue 8#12oz. = c-section, 2nd one was 2

weeks early planned c-section, dr. owed me for the first being overdue she

was 6#12oz and perfect, the third was actually 3 weeks early because I was

living in hawaii and refused to let that doc touch me, so I came home to have

#3 and expexted her to be smaller than the 2nd but she was 7#3oz. and again

just fine. so everyone of them are different but usually 2 weeks is okay! I

wouldnt worry or feel guilty but if you being induced and never have before

you're in for a surprise! good luck to you.

I could see how you would want to have it induced but for many

reasons I would not and could not.

I have seen friends and relatives go in for a simple induction and

have results not so great. Long extremely painful labors. a few

resulting in a c-section.

I personally on doctors orders will not be allowed to try for a vbac

due to uncertainty in knowing where my uterine scar is. She was

thinking about letting me try for a vbac until she found out my

medical records do not contain that info. The vbac rules were going

to be that I could go into labor on my own only, even if i passed my

due date they would never use induction drugs because of a risk of

uterine rupture, so if I passed my due date I would be sched. for the

section.

Good luck in your decision.

Thank you all for responding. WOW, just read through the responses and there

were lots of different ones. Like I mentioned, I have had 3 vaginal births

before. I only had one birth without pitocin. I needed it for my first because

after 24 hours of painful back labor I was only at 2 centimeters. The second

child was NOT induced but she didn't arrive until 41 weeks 5 days. The third

was induced at 40 weeks 3 days.

I guess my biggest concern is that the baby seems to be smaller this time around

than in my previous pregnancies. I might be confusing my size with my baby's

size but the baby seems pretty small in comparison. Even though in all of my

pregnancies my fundal height has measured exactly with the corresponding week

number. I don't want to induce if the baby is small because I'd prefer to

suffer a while longer with the pregnancy to give the baby the best chance at a

healthy start. I've never had a baby need to go to the NICU or anything and I

want this birth experience to be the same as the others in that regard.

I'm not worried about the extra pain involved with pitocin because I am a

believer in getting pain meds during labor. Mostly because, for me, as soon as

I have pain relief my cervix opens up quickly. In all three births I went from

4 to 10 centimeters within 45 minutes ... all right after my pain meds. I had

an intrathecal for the first 2 (kind of like an epidural but not as long lasting

and you still feel the urge to push) and for the third I begged for the

intrathecal but they gave me an epidural instead -- and the cathedar came out of

my back so I only received the initial test dose and once it was time to deliver

I had no pain relief left.

Anyway, I thank you all for your advice. I still have at least another 5 weeks

to make my final decision. Five weeks really isn't that long but sometimes it

seems like an eternity when you are pregnant. Sure hope the next 5 weeks go as

fast as the last 5 went. :)
