Guest guest
Not a bad couple of weeks! Just a quick catch up! 10. Saw Lord of the Rings Return of the King today and it was REALLY good! Definitely a must-see. Do yourself a favor and watch the other two before you go see it. It makes the movie so much better to see what just happened prior to the opening scene. 9. Messed up on a field trip this week (that we were supposed to have, but didn't due to my mess up). The kids were fine with it. I bought them pizza and stayed until 6:30 so they could enjoy playing games and watch a movie. I felt horrible about it, but they were cool with it. Could it be that they know me so well they EXPECT me to screw things up? 8. The kidney stones I was passing Friday are gone. I'm hoping they don't have friends. In fact, I've felt great all weekend. 7. Tuesday I biked 16.5 miles and then on a whim I decided to see how far I could run after. I gave myself a half mile limit, but ended up working out the " rubber legs " in the first .25 of a mile so I ran 2 miles. Woo! Then lifted weights for 30 minutes. I generally either bike or run, but since I am planning at least one sprint-triathlon this year, I felt like I'd better give it a go combining some of the sports once a week or so. 6. Two of my former students just got jobs at Intel! One of them messaged me and said " You know how there are teachers in your life that make a difference? Well you are that teacher in my life and I just wanted to tell you that if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have this job. Thank you SO much! " 5. I've opened up my Future Information Technology Professionals (FITP) club membership to students at the new Arts and Technology School because they have no clubs there. Well it's taken off! Six of their kids (they only have about 130) have joined and have been at all the meetings and activities lately. It's neat to see some new faces, even though I do love the old ones. One of the moms, a former classmate, picks them up from school every Friday for the meeting and brings them to my class. It's fun to see her once a week, and I really like her kid! 4. Even though I wasn't overly enthusiastic about teaching Bookkeeping this year, I am finding that I really do like these kids. They aren't as " geeky " as my other students (a sub-group that I have a passion for), but they are sweet sweet kids. Some are VERY troubled. (It's a math cross-credit, and very very basic math, so I get some pretty low students.) It's sad to watch them struggle, but they are feeling good in my class about what they're doing and some of my former skippers are showing up more often. Others are feeling comfortable enough to confide in me about things and really open up. I truly think that helps them academically because they feel a " tie " to the class. 3. Roy's kids put on a play, " Scrooge " this week. Despite his principal asking him to " remove all references to Christmas so as not to offend anyone " (he said no, since she had already okayed the play...he compromised by changing the title only), it went QUITE well and no one was offended. The kids were SO proud of themselves! Junior high is a very difficult group to work with, but he has a heart for them and loves them. He was VERY funny introducing the play, too. The parents really loved them. 2. We went out on a limb for two of my more troubled tech team boys and set them up in another school on their own doing tech support for a lab there. It's really paid off. The self confidence these boys exude is palpable when they talk about the work they're doing there. The teacher is ecstatic because she's new to PCs. 1. I finished my main gift for Roy. We decided to make each other gifts this year, so I did an " I love you " scrapbook for him. It was as much a gift for me as it gave me time to sit down and reflect on what our life together means to me. I know he actually will love it, and we'll enjoy looking at it together for years to come. ==================================================== Tory Klementsen, MCP A+ Career and Technology Educator www.teechur.com <http://www.teechur.com/> - MP IT Academy Site www.msteechur.com <http://www.msteechur.com/> - Personal Site The successful person will do the things that the unsuccessful person will not. ____________________________________________________ <http://www.incredimail.com/redir.asp?ad_id=709 & lang=9> IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - <http://www.incredimail.com/redir.asp?ad_id=709 & lang=9> Click Here " >
