Guest guest
Hi , No Joe hasnt had any diarrhea , in fact his is the opposite bouts of constipation, For the diarrhea has your father tried imodim ad? I know the Onc. Nurse said if Joe developed diarrhea to have him take Imodim Ad. with the first loose stool , and then one evertime he had a loose stool up to eight a day. He had a barium enema right before his ileostomy reversal , and was fortunate enough not to have to drink anything that time, ( although if you have a ileostomy and they give you an enema beware it comes out THAT HOLE , his baggy almost exploded.) Have your dad try some yogurt , it is suppose to produce good (something or other lol) and help with diarrhea , I know some antibiotics do cause diarrhea , is he still on them?? Also make sure he is getting in enough fluids as to much diarrhea could cause dehydration. My new motto is , when in doubt call the Onc. office , they make enough money they should be able to answer any and all questions . Wishing your Dad well Deb 33yrold husband Joe, was diagnosed with CC in Sept, resection on Sept 27th 2004 open wound from infection until Jan 2005 Ileostomy reversal Dec 7th 2004 Chemo regiment begun Jan 2005 5fu/levorican/Oxaplatin/ Avastin to be added at later date

Guest guest
The other plus of the BRAT diet is that Bananas are a good source of Potassium which is lost through loose bowels and/or vomiting. Don't forget to drink lots of WATER. It's an absolute bummer getting IV fluids if you are able to avoid it. Narice

My Dad was put on Levaquil, an antibiotic, just in case he developed pneumonia. That gave him diahrrea. A week later he had a scan and had to drink barium sulfate which made it worse. Now he seems to no control over bowel movements. And as soon as he eats he's in the bathroom, sometimes every hour. Yet he has no fever, nothing. - In colon_cancer_support , debbied30@a... wrote: > Hi , > My husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 sigmoid colon cancer , when they found > the tumor it was already blocking 98% of his colon, on Sept 27 2004 they > removed all of his sigmoid colon the very top part of his rectum, 49 lymph nodes > ( 3 of which were positive for cancer) and the lining of his abdominal wall ( > were the cancer had started to spread to) > During his resection , when they went to connect him they found a small leak > , so they gave him a temporary ileostomy to allow the resection to heal > properly, > Dec 7th 2004 he had his ileostomy reversed and a wound infection that had > developed from the first surgery , reopened and cleaned out, they left both the > reversed ileostomy area and the wound infection open, so it would heal from > the inside out . > He started chemo , 5fu, Levocarin(sp) , Oxaplatin , on the 6th of Jan , > (with Avastin to be added soon) > His schedule is like this > Mondays goes to chemo gets fluids , anti nausea meds, Oxaplatin , Levocarin, > more fluids then gets hooked up to his fanny pack of 5fu for 2 days on > Wensday goes in to gets disconnected and more fluids. > He describes the ill effects like a the worst hangover you've ever had x10 > (mind you he doesnt drink lol) > His first week he was sick allllll week long , the 2nd treatment they added > the fluids , so that week he didnt get nausea/vomitting nearly as bad ,(still > had one or 2 bouts but much better ) > He started noticing the cold effect the 2nd treatment > > Hope this helps some > > Deb > > >

Guest guest
Depends on your constitution... Start off with bananas, and work your way up according to how you feel.
