Guest guest
Hi Jen I am not sure how to contact Mr Treacy, but I had my BHR at ington Hospital, Wigan, where the whole process of hip replacement began about 50 years ago under Dr Charnley. I had a consultant - Mr Martyn Porter - with a total coat of about £7500. If you need any contact details, please let me know getting a private consult in England Can anyone tell me how i contact MR Ronan Treacy in Birmingham for a private consultation. And how much it might cost? I have discussed with my GP who is sceptical but supportive, as he thinks A) i am borderline due to my hip being pretty knackered and B)it will take a while to convince the PCT I should be referred out of area for the surgery. I am willing to pay for an opinion from MR Treacy as I understand if he says resurfacing isn't possible he is probably right. My life is too important to hang about waiting for the NHS to get its act together. Cheers, Jen

I was charged £100 for his time and £70 for an xray (if you have an xray taken within the last three months you should not need another one). He is going to try bilateral resurfacing on me but thinks I may have been left to late (ie by the NHS). I am going for it on 20th August to say a little prayer for me :-) Love Lucy 30 years - UK - bilateral AVN femoral heads

Guest guest
, I would appreciate the contact details for the guy in wigan cos I'm from Cumbria so it would be a hell of a lot closer to home than Brum! How long has he been doing resurfs? How did you find the aftercare and physio treatment also? Any info would be appreciated. Guest guest
His name is Mr Martyn Porter and he has consulting rooms in Preston, Euxton Hospital and ington. He has been doing BHR for a number of years and you may know that ington was a pioneering centre for THR about 40 - 50 years ago. Mr Porter is the major consultant at ington for BHR and has quite a reputation, being on a number of national and international committees. I was in hospital 7 days and the care during that time was good. I saw physio 12 hours after op and as out of bed and walking and saw them every day after until they were satisfied I could manage to walk well with the elbow crutches. They were happy I could go home after 7 days. I was in the private wing of the NHS hospital, but was originally booked for the private hospital at Euxton, but operation was brought forward. I am now 5 weeks post op. I am doing very well. I could manage stairs without help after two weeks and after four weeks was able to walk around house without crutches. I still use one crutch until I am told not to, but everyone says I am walking more straight than I did for years. I am hoping to have my 6 weeks post op consultation next week when I will be told I can drive - hopefully. All I can say is I have seen improvement every day since the op and am assured that I will be able to go back to ish country dancing and skiing!! I had a right leg shorter by 2.5 ins, but I am not sure he has been able to recover all that but most of it. Hope this is of help to you. Guest guest
Hi Lucy I've had lots of surgery on my hips as a teenager and then my knee (after an accident) and found the BHR to be a walk in the park! compared to the other surgery anyway! I had a morphine pump rather than an epidural, which ever you choose, pain can be kept to an absolute minimum, don't bother putting up with the pain theres really no need to, (if you have an epidural you probably will feel next to nothing anyway) my boss had the BHR a year before me and was ready to jump out the window (ground floor!) the evening before surgery, on the day he woke from the anaesthetic and asked the nurse if they could hurry up and get it over with! they told him the surgery had been carried out, and he promises me to this day he felt no more pain, some discomfort upon walking to start with but thats it! Have you had surgery before? Dont worry, I and all the group are behind you, I'll celebrate your new life with my birthday (going even deeper into my 30's!) My BHR is ok, i've had some problems, and it's been very painful at times, however nothing shows up on xray's or scans, we now believe it to be a tendon problem (ducto-tendonitis) I'm going for a second opinion soon, then we can work on rectifiying that! Good luck lots of love Mr Fordyce LBHR 04 Sept 01 Re: getting a private consult in England > Hi Lucy > Good luck for the 20th its my birthday that day (31) so i'll be thinking of you! > Good luck > > LBHR Mr Fordyce Kent UK ) 04 Sept 2001 > >Dear Many thanks for your kind words :-) Happy Birthday in advance!
