My new >question is " how long till you can drive with your new hip? Thanks! As long as you don't exceed your ROM limitations, you can drive whenever you want. I waited for a few weeks, just cause I was so stiff and sore getting into the car. I didn't feel secure enough if I'd have to slam on the brakes or do some other quick movement. Besides, I was recovering, so why rush things? I had it done on the right. If yours is on the left, your might be able to drive a lot sooner. -- Jeff =============== " Cows eat grass, so get high on milk. "

I drove ten days post-op, the day after getting my staples out. Dr. Boyd said I could drive that day. My mother said 'You know *I'm* driving home! Mom's restrictions were tougher than the docs-LOL. I drove to a continuing ed. class the next day which was a couple of hours long. A lot depends on what, if any, painkillers you are on-don't want any hippy DUI's!! Guest guest
I was able to start driving 6 weeks after my surgery, right hip C+. It was a little difficult at first since both my vehicles are standard transmission (clutching & braking issues). Yoy just have to be extra attentive behind the wheel when you start driving again. Good luck, Ken
Guest guest
I had simultaneous bilateral and drove after 19 days, with automatic- of course. I'm not sure I would do that on the LA freeways but on the westside of Madison, Wisconsin it's a little different. Guest guest
I had my left hip resurfaced, so I felt comfortable driving short distances when I returned from Belgium, about 12-13 days post- surgery. > Hello again, everyone. Guest guest
Hi my surgeon recommended 6 weeks before driving, obviously you would need to heed their advice, just in case you had an accident, you know what insurance companies can be like! I to had a left BHR and found the clutch to be quite heavy until the muscles had built back up M LBHR 04/09/01 Re: how long till you can drive? Guest guest
Single Resurf = 7-10 days with an automatic, a few more for an automatic. In any event, make sure to rev your engine at stop lights (to provoke racing with the car next to you). Steve > Hello again, everyone. Thanks for all the help you've been so far. Guest guest
Hi Dianne, My surgeon said not before 6 weeks. Also my insurance company wouldn't cover me before that. It worked out to be about right for me. ine > Hello again, everyone. Thanks for all the help you've been so far. Hey, " snowrasteh " , I'm planning to have both of mine done simultaneously, will you share some of your experiences with me? I'm interested in weight bearing and walking, discomfort from not being able to sleep on either side, driving, stairs, anything you can think of. Would you do both simultaneously again? Thank you in advance. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus
