" The body will, I think, adjust to the idea that you will stick around " .... The

body. Boy, the body is so unknown to me... it will be nice to learn what it

really means to finally live inside the body rather than as a judge who's

sitting on the sidelines keeping score. Thanks. Sandarah

respond when/if they get into emotional eating? Does settling into a routine of

" eat when you're hungry, stop when your satisfied, etc. " mean that eventually

the desire to eat when upset/sad/overwhelmed/in pain, etc. goes away?

I struggle with emotional eating. It is my first port of call when stressed. I

have found other avenues to release the stress (talking, exercise, blogging,

writing, shouting!) and most of the time these work. I find I really can't do

anything but emotionally eat when I can't do any of my other techniques.

For example last week was exceptionally stressed but was at work. Couldn't

leave. No-one to talk to about it. So I ate some chocolate. Funny thing was it

didn't actually work. It didn't relieve the stress at all. I noted that and

carried on stressing! Next time I'm not sure what I'll do.

Abby you must have been quite tired - you could have posted instead since this

group site is 'open' 24/7 (lol). Actually reading must have been a good self

care option as that probably have become a luxury for you these days. Glad to

hear that darling daughter is sleeping more :-)

That is a good and important step - noticing. If you can, scratch the surface of

the stress and see what you find beneath. It most likely won't be chocolate -

lol - but you already found that out ;-) As time passes and you find you are

able to dive below the surface of the stress, you will find the working

substitute for what chocolate used to 'take care of' (not of course, but

comforting in its own way). Do pat yourself on the back for noticing! Happy baby

step :-) :-)

Coley,

That's exactly what I have discovered too. And once I realized that FOOD

DOESN'T RELIEVE MY STRESS, I was able to begin to focus on other means of

self-care. Currently, I am going through a major family emergency and like you,

have found that sometimes, all my current coping mechanisms are unavailable and

I must just put up with the stress for a while. But I am surviving, and

amazingly enough, actually lost the first bit of weight in several weeks right

when I would have expected to gain weight. This whole thing is giving me hope

that life can gradually improve, with better self-care. Right now I'm keeping

in mind that THERE IS NOTHING THAT OVEREATING WON'T MAKE WORSE.

Why can't you just eat the white rice? Patti

ah, those cookies. Looking at a bunch of oreo's on display in the supermarket today, all different makes and models of that similar type cookie, I realize how many of us look to food for comfort. I know I do, especially when I'm tired and I don't want to go to sleep. I am going to think this thing through. Today I had Chinese food for lunch, and I hated that the place didn't have brown rice. The food tasted terrific, but I gotta figure out how I'm going to get around eating at that place and what am I going to do because they don't have brown rice? This is a dilemma. There is a place that I can go to where he does make curry chicken with brown rice, but I don't often go there, I like the Chinese restaurant better. So I really gotta think this thing through. what to do when

I'm tempted for chinese food? Gotta think think think. Tai
