Dr. Welker of Portland, Oregon does not charge any service fee.

Generally when the surgeon is affiliated with a medical school they

don't. But you get teams of students coming in and staring at you

every day.

Dr. Anthone at USC University Hosp. has no service fee. He takes

what insurance pays, and says he intends to continue doing that to

make the surgery available to more people. What a doll!

AFTER THE FACT.

I s there an archive of Insurance helplines. LOOK IN DUODENAL

SWITH'S EGROUPS " FILES " TO LEARN MORE ABOUT EACH COMPANY.

I have discovered we have to be very specific in our financial

questions and not assume if you have insurance any office will accept

a assignment. HMO's ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM. EACH YEAR SOME

HOSPITALS AND DR.s WILL BE ADDED TO OR REMOVED AS PROVIDERS. WHEN I

HAD AN OLD INDEMNITY POLICY THAT PAID 80% OF BILLED CHARGES, I HAD TO

MAKE UP EVERY OTHER PENNY. NOW PROVIDERS GET ABOUT 1/5TH OF WHAT THAT

POLICY PAID, AND I MAKE UP PRACTICALLY NOTHING!

What about the hospital charges? HOSPITALS CHARGE MORE THAN THEY

EXPECT TO GET PAID. WITH MOST INSURANCES, THE HOSPITAL'S AND DR.'S

CONTRACT STATE THE AMOUNT THEY CAN RECEIVE, REGARDLESS OF THEIR FEES.

Do they ask for upfront fees? MOST HOSPITALS REQUIRES AN AMOUNT EQUAL

TO YOUR DEDUCTIBLE OR A SMALL PAYMENT AT TIME OF REGISTRATION--I THINK

IT WAS $200 AT USCUH.
