Glad you found a good doc for evaluation. Interesting his comment

about the kidney stone. Somewhere I saw some stats that about 70% of

people with RTA have kidney stones.

Will keep you in my prayers this week.

I am glad that your appointment went well. I will be keeping you in my thoughts as you do the rest of your tests and head off to Cleveland.

Thank you all for your nice thoughts and prayers today as I went to my renal appt. The doc. was very nice and brilliant! He even knew what a carnitine deficiency was! hehe He had reviewed all the lab results and reports from my other docs beforehand so he was very aware of what was going on and what had been done. He examined me and notated how low my bp was. I told him that I had NMH. He said he really, really did NOT think I had RTA. He said I would have had more than just the one kidney stone and I would be leaking more in my urine than just carnitine. He said just to double check he was going to do a 24 hr urine collection, a spot urine tests and some more bloodwork. I see him again in 2 wks to get the results. The appt is just 2 days before I leave for Cleveland since it looks as if I am going for sure now. Please continue to pray for me as that is going to be a tough week. Hope you each had a nice day today.

Sorry Barbara..I guess I misunderstood what you were saying. It's a very good question. You have set my mind to thinking now. hehe I'm not sure exactly what he meant by that..it just came across to me that he thought I would had more stones if I had RTA and I would be leaking other things besides carnitine.

I know next to nothing about RTA, but what I wondered about his

comment is that if 70% of people with RTA have kidney stones, that

means that 30% never have stones, even though they have RTA.

I didn't see any stats about what percentage of people with RTA have

multiple stones, so have no idea about that. It just struck me that

given the stats, I wondered why he was so sure that you would have

had more than one stone. Perhaps he means that of the people with

RTA who have stones, they tend to have multiple occurances?

Well, never mind. Just my rambling non-thoughts here....always

asking irrelevant questions.... :-)
