I'm interested in learning about phase 3 of the South-Beach Diet. Where can I find the information for this. I'm interested in what foods you can eat on phase 3 and how to go about maintaining. Thanks.Terri

You can go to yahoo groups and access the files for this group for recipes and other tips about each phase but it's still not the same as reading the book IMO.

You answered your own question.

In Phase 3 you can have anything that doesn't result in weight gain - you

maintain.

In other words, from what you've learned in Phases 1 and 2, you should begin

to know what works and what doesn't.

Terri,

Chuck has summarized very aptly what Agatston says about phase 3. The

SBD book does have some phase 3 recipes, and the SB _Good Fats Good

Carbs Guide_ gives a rating on the avoid-enjoy scale for phase 3

foods. But mostly, like the transition from phase 1 to 2, I recommend

taking the transition into phase 3 slow. Experiment with whatever

foods you want to add and watch for weight gain and the return of

cravings. I don't see phase 3 as a license to eat anything I want

anytime I want. Well, maybe in a way I do because what I like to eat

has evolved over the last 2 years on this WOE. I prefer SB friendly

food. I've been on phase 3 for a total of I'm guessing about 8 or 9

months, not all consecutive. On phase 3, mostly I eat a lot like phase

2 with a little more fruit and ww bread and less concern about an

occasional white bread roll at a restaurant or a hotdog at a ballgame.

I'm just talking from personal experience. Chuck, do you want to add

anything about how you handle phase 3 compared to phase 2?

Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The

South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right

fats-the good ones - and enables you to live quite happily without the bad

carbs and bad fats.

For more on this Way Of Eating please read " The South Beach Diet " by Arthur

Agatston, MD. ISBN 1-57954-814-8

Well, maybe that my Phase 3 resulted in a 10 lb. gain that stays with me ;-)

But I have held at that point since Christmas. I'd like to loose the 10, but

going back to Phase 1 for a week had absolutely no impact.

Today I was at a friends house all day working on a project. I was offered a

couple of drinks and something for lunch. The drinks were canned lemonaide.

I'm sure they were loaded with sugar. Lunch was a hamburger on a white roll.

I did luck out with an afternoon snack - peanuts. Given a choice, I would

not have eaten those things (except the peanuts). However, I also knew from

experience that eating them would have no impact - no cravings, etc. When I

got home at 6:30 tonight, I had a SB friendly supper, just like it never

happened. I just carry on.

I am still trying to get off 10 pounds that I gained on Phase 3. Taking me a long time. I was on maintenance way over a year, and all of a sudden 10 pounds crept up, so I am seriously journaling, and trying to find the answer. Di

Di,

If you tried phase 1 again already, then have you thought about adding

a little more exercise? That can kickstart weight loss, and I think it

could be even more important for that last 10 pounds that people seem

to have trouble losing.
