Guest guest
Hi , I am glad you were able to come to a decision and that you are at peace with it. Now we just have to pray you hold steady long enough to enjoy your vacation and hopefully even until you can get your transplant. God bless you! Guest guest
Hi all. I went to the transplant/vascular surgeon yesterday and discussed creating dialysis access. After consultation with him and with the head home hemo nurse, I have decided to have a Tenckhoff catheter put in for PD. The surgery will be sometime in the next 2 weeks. Although I did not like the idea of PD at first (well, I didn't like the idea of dialysis at all, actually, who does?), it makes the most sense. It takes a much shorter time for PD to be ready and I am sliding fast, with a creatinine of 7.5. A fistula would take too long to mature and then the home hemo training takes 6-8 weeks. If my donors pan out, it would not be worth it. With PD, it can be ready in 2 weeks. Hopefully, I can forestall a bit longer, since we leave on the 18th for a short holiday in Tasmania(sounds more exotic than it is). So, I am more at less at peace with the decision. I am glad that I have found a person in the hospital, the head transplant nurse, who really gets things done (unlike my neph). The donor stuff is moving forward but tx date may be anywhere from Nov-Jan if all goes well. Thanks for you prayers and support.
Guest guest
I'm glad to hear you finally have someone working in a proactive way for you. Please let us know when your surgery is scheduled. You have been in my thoughts a lot lately and I truly hope your donor comes thru with flying colors. Good luck with the PD in the interim. Hang in there! Amy dialysis decision Hi all. Guest guest
The very best of luck, . I'm of the view that either PD or hemo is a good enough decision, if you have to make a decision. Once the decision is made, just go with it and don't worry about it. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, and it's not like you're permanently locked into your chosen method. If it doesn't work out, you can always change. If you were to have a fistula put in, and you happened to need dialysis before it's ready, they would simply do it via a catheter. But it's definitely true that PD access is ready much sooner than a fistula. Pierre dialysis decision Hi all.
