Guest guest
Hi there! I'm having trouble keeping up! If you're new, welcome, if you're not, I'm glad you're posting! How did your appointment go today? If you've already answered, you have to forgive me as I'm still reading through this morning's posts! I'm hoping you made a good connection with the doctor! You know, after all of my " searching " for the right doctors, I feel so lucky that when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 15 i had the best in the world for a doctor. That's the upside! The downside is that since he retired ten years ago NOone can live up to him! At least he taught me well from the start. (Dang ... I need to write that guy a long, sappy, thankful letter, don't I?) Hope it went well!!! Ann
Guest guest
Hi Ann, Thank you, everything went great. I am not new, I have been hanging around for a few months now, just reading, learning and very occasionally posting. I feel that I am still too new to the disease to be offering advice yet but I am learning a great deal from everyone else. If it wasn't for this group I wouldn't have even been looking for a new doctor, I would have assumed that I was getting the best from the one that I had. But as it happened I began to question the care that I was getting, and have now found a doctor that I feeling much more comfortable with. Although my new doctor is still very pro RAI, I feel comfortable enough with him to debate on the issue, and he actually listens to what I have to say. My previous endo was very abrupt and dismissive. These are the things that convinced me to change to this new endo : * He is arranging for a much more comprehensive set of labs, including a full thyroid screen, TPO antibody test, and various others. This was without me asking for them. * He actually asked me if I wanted a copy of the lab reports sent to me.... *GASP* * He checked my eyes, which the other endo's didn't even question me about, let alone take any base measurements. * He asked me for my symptoms, rather than having me fill in a questionnaire which is totally ignored. * He has taken some homework away, which was to provide me with some evidence of long term studies on patients that have had RAI. * When I mentioned Bugleweed he said that he hadn't heard about it, BUT he wrote it down so I assuming that he might look into it. * And we had a nice discussion about vitamins and calcium. He gave me a very positive feeling, and I came away happy, not irritated and disgruntled. I will be changing my medication from PTU to methiamozole (sp?), and I am going back in 4 weeks. So I have a little spring in my step today..... I know that the doctor thing was stressing me out. So thanks... it was a good day ! Katy. Oh I almost forgot... the doctor and I also had a discussion about block and replace. After the discussion he said " Is that what you want to do ? " Double *GASP*. !!! He actually seemed to be willing to try it if that was what I wanted !! Re: Katy/doctors Hi there! I'm having trouble keeping up! If you're new, welcome, if you're not, I'm glad you're posting! Guest guest
Oh Katy, What a wonderful experience you have had! I am impressed with your doctor. Where is he located at, state wise, in case someone new to graves is in your area and looking for a doctor? I have 2 questions for you, in the thyroid testing he has ordered, you mentioned the TPO ab test...is he also running the TSI ab's? And I'm just curious on why you are switching to MMI <so much easier than trying to spell the big word ;-)> from PTU? Is that at your request or the doctors? It sure does sound like you will be making big strides in your journey with this Doc! I am so happy for you! As for your not posting because you don't feel you have the experience to recommend things...I always enjoy your posts, the things you share of what you have gone through, are going through and your goals are very important learning tools, for *all* of us, not just the new folks! Hope to hear from you more as your journey continues. Jody

Guest guest
Katy, You said our doc is in Conneticut? I wonder if you and Deb <JACKSUE in email address> are seeing the same doctor? She has one from the same state, I believe who also sounds amazing. Jody

I'm so glad you found a doctor who really does seem to be in your corner and respects you as a person, not just a patient! Good for you! I am wondering what he's going to provide as far as evidence of long term studies on RAI patients. If it's not too much trouble, could you share some of his findings with me personally, or here on the board when you get them and after/if you feel up to it? I know it's just " information " but it is information that is useful to me and Joe! Again, I'm so glad it went well! You are so lucky! On days/appointments like this don't you just want to sing " Ain't life grand! " ? I know I do! Ann
Guest guest
Hi Ann, I am not sure what he will be providing but I will certainly post it to the board. Being that was my first appointment with him and I am not sure how reliable the doctor is yet, it will be interesting to see if he actually follows up on it. I am just hoping that I won't be disappointed at my next visit. But if he does provide the information I am sure it will be of interest to a lot of people in this group so I will definitely be posting something. Take care, Katy.
