Guest guest
Rhonda, Constipation in breastfed babies is usually an indication of a food sensitivity. Do you eat a lot of dairy or soy? You can get a glycerine suppository to use to help her go. Also some people recommend inserting a rectal thermometer (but that's not my style). Not drinking enough water shouldn't make your baby constipated. It could make you constipated but shouldn't affect her. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources constipation From: sept9mom@... has been constipated for a few days now I know that it is constipation because I can see the poop in her bottom but it wont come out poor little thing cries when she tries to go. I have given her juice and a jar of plums and tried to massage her bottom with a baby wipe to get it out but it wont come out. could it be because I haven't been drinking enough water lately? would that do it? I just feel so bad for her I know that constipation is very uncomfortable even painful any other suggestions? is this common is breastfed babies because I remember my only other breastfed baby going through this (but none of my bottle-fed babies) but I don't think it went on this long. Guest guest
My family Dr that I had when Arran was a baby suggested pushing a small amount of Vaseline into the baby's rectum with the pad of your finger, so you aren't putting anything but the Vaseline in, this is supposed to make the bowel movement come out easier. Arran was formula fed so he was constipated a couple times. Michele, mom of Arran 12-27-93, Keely 12-5-97 & Rowan 3-15-00! Guest guest
I have two questions. First, Last week I was extremely ill. After three days of explosive poop for me I went to see a doctor. I live in a rural area, so you see the doctor that is available. He is about 120 years old and told me to drink lots of coffee with a teaspoon of salt in each cup and that I should wean my daughter since she is almost seven months old, and she would get sick too. I was so upset that I wasted my time. So I phoned an RN in the city and she told me to go on the BRAT diet, eat lots of white starches, and drink an electrolyte drink like gatorade to help replenish fluids because I was getting dizzy at times. She laughed and said it was good I didn't take his advice. Three days later I seem to be better but my little girl didn't go poo for three days. She always goes at least once a day. Finally yesterday she went, but it was just a little one, and thicker than usual. Today she hasn't gone again. She isn't uncomfortable, it doesn't seem to be bothering her at all, but I am worried. She still nurses as much as usual, and gets a tbsp of fruit in the morning when I eat breakfast and a tbsp of barley cereal with us for supper. Could the barley be the culprit, or maybe because I was dehydrated, she wasn't getting enough fluid? Also does anyone know where I can find info on laser surgery for cervical cancer? I have had so many biopsies and surgeries I can't believe I have a cervix left. Thank you so much for any help

Guest guest
Pat, My guess is that you are probably dehydrated from the illness and it is showing up in her now. Lots of fluid will help get back on track. Barley isn't usually an allergy culprit but anyone can be sensitive to anything. The white rice could be the thing that is binding her up. White rice is a binding food. I would get as much fluid as possible and just watch her. What a horrible doctor you saw. Sounds like he needs to be reported. Feel better quick! Sorry don't have any laser info for you. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Re: constipation I have two questions. First, Last week I was extremely ill. Guest guest
, I just saw Dr. Lytle (Developmental Ped) at Riley. typically only has a bowl movement once every 7 to 10 days. Not Good -- and when he has one they are painful. She told us to us Senokot. It's an over the counter constipation medicine. However, I had the pharmacist order it in liquid form (only $9) so that I could easily adjust the dose and put it in his g-tube. The recommended dose for was 2.5 cc (1/2 tsp) twice a day. Through trial and error I have found that it only takes 2 cc's once every other day to keep regular. I doubt Dr. Walsh will have much to say except to send you to someone else. Good Luck, and remember to always ask a doctor before starting something new. Guest guest
Yes, Cameron has terrible problems. We use glycerin suppositories if he is really plugged up. But we have now found that a drug called Lactalose ( which draws water into the bowels) is what he needs. Every night we mix 15ml in with his night drip feed. I had to play around with the dosing. It can cause severe gas and diarrhea if I use too much. His maintenance dose spread out through the night keeps him regular. It can be given orally, and is not a stimulant so he will not become dependant on it like other drugs. That is what we are doing FYI -----Original Message-----From: karen earlywine Sent: Monday, March 10, 2003 1:06 PMTo: Mito Subject: constipation hi does any of your kids have trouble with bowel movements? if so what do you do for them? we finally got brigitte to go but i hate to keep using a enima on her. that seems to be the only way she can go lately and i can't get her in to see dr walsh. any ideas? thanks karen ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.
