Guest guest
I also am celebrating a one year anniversary with my mates Isara, Marie, Teri, , and others. I had bilateral simultaneous and I still can't believe that I was so fortunate to discover resurfacing and Dr DeSmet. Ghent, Belgium will always be one of the great memories of my life. I just played my first tennis tournament in years and although rusty from my old championship form, I had a great time competing again. After 14 years of OA, I just realized that I can cross my legs sitting-if I want to. It is also just nice to walk everywhere (including uphill) and not even think about it. Best wishes to all. Guest guest
Saeed, Congratulation on your first year,...you are one of the main reason I chose to go to Belgium and have my bilateral. I followed your posting since before you surgery and after. I hope to be posting a similar 1 year update next year after returning to my old softball team,....we'll see:) Michigadar Mike Bilateral, Dr.DeSmet, April,2003 > I also am celebrating a one year anniversary with my mates Isara, Marie, > Teri, , and others. > I had bilateral simultaneous and I still can't believe that I was so > fortunate to discover resurfacing and Dr DeSmet. Guest guest
Congrats, Saeed! Happy to hear that you are doing so well! I KNEW you would compete again! And I bet you are recreating moves from 20 years ago! I just wanted to thank you for the time that you took to speak personally to me. Your wealth of information was invaluable and I, too, am glad that I took the Belgium route. (Just got back from rock climbing in beautiful British Columbia!) Guest guest
Jude - I live in British Columbia - where were you rock climbing? Where I live, we have one of the most popular rock climbing sites there is in BC (and anywhere, I'm told). I live in Penticton, and the climbing site is called Skaha Bluffs - have you heard of it? Top climbers from all over come to climb and there's a book out all about the climbing there. I realize this probably doesn't interest anyone else on this site, but thought you might like to know of it. Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking (just wondering how far you had to come, to get to beautiful BC)? Guest guest
Hi Sharry, Actually I was climbing at Skaha Bluffs! It is one of my favorite places to climb! While I was there I ran into Howie who wrote that particular book. He is a biologist and naturalist as well as a climber who has contributed so much to the climbing community in Penticton. I live north of Spokane WA and it is a beautiful 5 hour drive to Penticton. We go as often as we can and love to dine at Theo's--I'm sure you have eaten at that great Greek restaurant! We also enjoy the wines of Okanogan and bring our share back from Inniskillin and Hester Creek Wineries. Evidently the Inniskillin Riesling Ice Wine just won a major award in Brussels. Small world- lots of connections! Last year I was barely able to hike into the bluffs- it is unbelievable where I am at right now. I think of Koen De Smet every day and am sure I will for the rest of my days! You have made an excellent choice! Guest guest
I am a 47 year old male from India. I have AVN in my left hip joint which was diagnosed 3 years back thru' MRI. and am scheduled for Total Hip Replacement next week. I have just learnt about Hip Resurfacing and am considering this option. It sounds good but would like to know several things about hip resurfacing like 1) Suppose I do hip resurfacing, will I have any problem for a Total Hip Replacement in case hip resurfacing doesn't work out? 2) What about the absorption of metal by the body and its side effects? 3) Which metal or device is recommended for hip resurfacing? 4) What are the restrictions on your activities? 5) Do you feel any pain any sometimes? 6) Which metal device recommendable for implant? Finally, which is a better option, Total Hip Replacement or Hip Resurfacing? Looking forward to your reply and thanking you in advance. Guest guest
Hi Jude Somehow I missed this email until today...So you were here at Skaha Bluffs! What a small world, I can hardly beleive it. Howie is a friend of mine - we worked together at the local campus of Okanagan University, he's a professor of biology and chem, and I was the education adivsor until 2 years ago when this hip finally did me in and I took early retirement (really early). I was also heavily involved with the local naturalist club and hope to be able todo that again too (can't hike anymore). Once I'm fixed up by Dr De Smet I may be able to look at returing to work somewhere. Theo's is one of my favourite restaurants and is owned by friends of mine (can you tell this is a samll town?), and Theo Theodosakis. It's great to hear you can actually rock climb again, because that is a really demanding sport - I did a little of it a few years back, and loved it, but also have a really healthy repect for how extraordinarily strenuous it is - no wonder you are gateful to Dr De Smet! If you want, next time you visit Penticton, let me know, and we can get together to compare our hip stories - my surgery in Belgium is on 27 August, so I'll be away then from 20 Aug - 4 September. I live high up in the hills on the east side of the city, same side as Skaha Bluffs, and have a fantastic view of thewhole valley - you can sit on my deck and have a glass of one of those great local wines while deciding if you want totry climbing the rocky bluffs surrunding our home... Hope to be hikin' soon Sharry RBHR De Smet 27/08/03 From: Judy Toelle To: surfacehippy Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 1:44 AM Subject: Re: 1 year today-me too Hi Sharry, Actually I was climbing at Skaha Bluffs! Guest guest
Hi Sharry! I would love to take you up on your kind offer! It is indeed a very small world. As I said before, Penticton is my favorite place to climb and I have been all over the world. It is an absolute idyllic spot. My next planned trip is Aug 30-sept 3 so I will just miss you. I have been known to spontaneously jet up there though, so if that happens I will send you an email. I will supply the wine! August 27 is my son's birthday so I will definitely remember you and keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I believe that you will be hiking again and should you decide to give the crags another go you can rely on me for a belay! All the Best, Jude Re: 1 year today-me too I also am celebrating a one year anniversary with my mates Isara, Marie, Teri, , and others. Guest guest
Thanks Jude, for your kind words. Too coincidental that your son's birthday is the same day as my operation....I have climbed a bit before and loved the challenge, so I may take you up on your belaying offer....For sure we'll be able to get together at some point when I get back from Belgium. I have ancestral roots in the Spokane area to, to tell you about.
