Guest guest
I know that, but the question is about four months, when everything is back normal. I was advised to do so even for teeth cleanings. Guest guest
OK , there there are still tiny problems, but I can hiking again for miles and days without pain or a limb. Inside my hip everything should be normal with no danger of infections anymore; that's the question. GR (@ @) o00-(_)-00o Nico Re: dentist > > > > > >> > >> >I'm four months PO and doing very well. Nico, I have read that you need to take the precautions up till at least two years post op. There was a logical explanation for it that escapes me at the moment. I am 18 months post op and went to the dentist two weeks ago. I had a cleaning and two bondings. I took the antibiotics gladly. At about 6 months post op I got a real scare when I developed an infection in one of my pierced ears. I took a full course of antibiotics then and worried like the dickens. It takes a full year as most OS will say for all to be " normal " . I say fooey on that cuz I'm still improving. Guest guest
Trudy, Thank you for reacting. I shall take precautions. Several months ago there was her a discussion that you should start taking antibiotics before the dentist did his job. I allready have an infection at my back tooth, that will be removed tomorrow. So there is no time for that. Guest guest
ABSOLUTELY! The Rx that Dr. Kennedy gives, and I agree with as a dentist, is: Keflex 500mg / 4 tablets (that's 2 grams total), one hour prior to the dental procedure. (note there is a 10% cross allergy instance between penicillin and Keflex) If you're allergic to penicillin the alternative is: Clindamycin 300mg / 2 tablets, one hour prior to dental procedure There are other alternatives that your dentist may prefer but some kind of coverage should be taken. It's cheap insurance to protect a valuable investment! Your dentist should be able to either write or call in the Rx or as we do in our office, just dispense the antibiotic. (seems kind of silly to make our patients go to the pharmacy to get four tablets of antibiotic that cost very little) BTW - This protection is generally continued for every dental appointment that involves the possibility of a bacteremia for life. That's any procedure that creates bleeding which would include cleanings, scaling and root planing, most fillings and crowns. Only adjustments to denture or partials and other very minor treatments would be excluded from this Rx. Take your medicine, be happy, don't worry! L. Guest guest
Nico It is better to be safe than sorry. So the answer is yes. Rog dentist I'm four months PO and doing very well. Some OS's say for one year, some say two years, some say forever (as if you had a rheumatic heart). My dentist wrote the prescription. Both the dentist and my OS follow the AHA (American Heart Association) recommendations. You might need to postpone your appointment, as you will need the prescription filled so you can take your dosage one hour prior to the work being done. Guest guest
Nico The 'contract' is that with joint operations, the majority of OS's will say anti-biotics for ever. I have seen 3 people who have had infections serious enough to have their hip resurf/replacement taken out and the space packed with muscle for a period of approximately 6 months. Not an enjoyable experience I would assume. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself fit and healthy, an infection doesn't pass you by. One of the three was a man in his late 20's who played football every week and was generally in very good physical shape. Rog Re: dentist > > > > > >> > >> >I'm four months PO and doing very well. Guest guest
In a perfect world all the bionic parts we place in our bodies would be perfectly matched and healed without scarring or irregularities where blood can pool and clot and where bacteria can lodge and multiply. The reality is that in hips as in artificial heart valves and other bionic bits, there are often small spaces and irregularities that provide convenient miniature Petri dishes for the growth of bacteria. This includes " well healed " surgeries, years out. All the best, MLTDMD Re: dentist > OK , there there are still tiny problems, but I can hiking again for > miles and days without pain or a limb. > Inside my hip everything should be normal with no danger of infections > anymore; that's the question. > GR > (@ @) > o00-(_)-00o > Nico

Guest guest
Thanks to all. I had a terrible night (Holland) walking with a groing ball at my cheek. My appoitment is at 9.30 A.M (local) so I get the antibiotic first. Get a prescription from him, and get thee to a pharmacy and take them. You take them an hour before your procedure. I'm having a tooth pulled next week--not looking forward to it! Guest guest
There's a bit of a quandary regarding removing an infected tooth versus treating with antibiotic until things " settle down " and then taking out the tooth. You would like to remove the source of the infection as soon as possible but wiggling the tooth to loosen it can pump bacteria into the system too. I tend to cover with antibiotics and take the tooth out immediately. My partner in the office likes to let antibiotics work for a few days. (two different dental schools / two different oral surgeons teaching technique) So there are two different philosophies in one office. Generally they both work out well so trust your dentist and worry not! MLTDMD Re: Re: dentist > At 01:22 AM 6/25/2003 +0200, you wrote: > >Trudy, > > > >Thank you for reacting. Guest guest
I take my daughter to Dr. Grosman in Davie. Her number is . She does not take medicaid, but does many other insurances. They have a private room that I go in with my daughter. While she is laying down there is a screen on the ceiling that plays her favorite movie. They take it slow and take many visits just to get her comfortable. Last month she had her first teeth cleaning in the normal time allowed with no problems. She loves going there.
