,

Funny thing, my appeal letter/packet to my ins co. included all of the things

you suggested. I did my homework before I sent my appeal. I had some very

good info from women on the embo list who had similar problems. My IR did

write a strong letter and I also included a list of ins. co. who already

covered the procedure (and there are plenty of them). You are right though,

if they deny me, I will get a lawyer friend of mine to write my next appeal

letter. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi -

I don't know if this will help but it might. Try to compile a letter to the

insurance company that includes some statistics on how many women get UAE

each year, how many years it has been performed and if you can ask your IR

to write a letter stating that it is no longer experimental. Also, are you

out of that magic " child bearing age " where doctors recommend hysterectomy

instead of myomectomy? If so, you could state all of the complications that

could arise from hyst., longer recovery time, urinary incontinence,

development of high blood pressure, etc. Let them know that this was the

most cost effective treatment in the long run and the least invasive. But

I'll be honest with you - as hard nosed as I got with my insurance company,

and as many letters as I wrote - nothing really changed until I told them I

was getting a lawyer.
