Guest guest
Try Diet Rite (Diet RC Cola) No caffeine, and tastes great! My favorite! Lis Giving up Caffeine.............. Oh the pain........... I know this is going to suck, because I've given up caffeine before and it made me sick for a day or two. Cold turkey isn't the way to go I'm sure, but I don't think that I'm disciplined enough to go off it slowly. And just when I found the diet drink of all diet drinks - Diet Mountain Dew!!! But then I got reading that caffeine farts around with your insulin levels and makes it harder for the body to burn fat. So, here goes caffeinated soda. Caffeine Free Diet Coke tastes a lot like it sounds. But without the Coke part. I'm doomed - but water isn't so bad is it? Yeah, it is that bad. If it weren't - there wouldn't be so many other things to drink. I'm ranting now. I have 1.4 lbs to go to get to a BMI that is below " Morbidly Obese. " Whoever thought I'd be happy to get into the category " Very Obese? " But I am. It's a milestone. Max 340/288.4/
Guest guest
Max, I have lost close to a hundred lbs on WW and I never gave up caffeine. In fact I have 3-4 cups of coffee a day plus iced and hot tea occasionaly. Having said that if you do want to give it up there are many, many drinks out there without caffeine. None of the Diet rite sodas have caffeine and one of my favorites, A & W diet root beer is caffeine free. I also believe that almost all of the " clear " diet sodas like Sprite and 7-up are CF. There's koolade and crystal light and the list goes on and on. Now it is important to drink your water everyday, I like water so that's never been a big deal for me but I know getting the water in is a problem for many. I have seen many posts in this group on how others deal with it so I'll defer to them for that issue. Charlie Giving up Caffeine.............. Oh the pain........... Guest guest
You could also do decaf coffee or tea. I'm not all that impressed with the diet Rite soda myself but I know a lot of people like it. So far my favorite caffeine free soda is diet Barq's Root beer. I have always been a root beer lover and I tried diet Mug and A & W and they both have that funny chemical taste to me. Barq's is the closest to regular in my opinion. I'm also hooked on Diet Cherry and Diet Vanilla Coke but they both have caffeine I think. It's funny because I have been a Pepsi drinker my whole life and they are all Coke products. My husband say's I'm a trader and I've gone over to the dark side ), but I just like Coke's diet soda's better. Although I still prefer plain Pepsi and diet Pepsi to Coke Classic or diet Coke Kris _____ None of the Diet rite sodas have caffeine and one of my favorites, A & W diet root beer is caffeine free. I tried one at the end of October, and it was way too sweet. Couldn't drink it. The only things I drink these days is water, milk, juice, maybe a club soda and an occasional glass of wine. Water isn't that bad - they say it takes 21 days to develop a habit - just force yourself to do it (6 cups a day or more) for 21 days and then it will come more naturally. It's a rare day now that I don't get at least 6 cups in - more typically its' 9-12 and sometimes 13-18. > >I'm ranting now. I have 1.4 lbs to go to get to a BMI that is >below " Morbidly Obese. Guest guest
I love my coffee and tea, and I like the caffeine ones. I still have 2 coffees to start off my mornings. I will have 2 or 3 teas as well throughout the day. I will say I do really like the caffeine-free sodas though. I find they have a zippier kick to them, if I feel like one. Of course I know all the evils of caffeine too, but I have never really tried to give it up. I do know that I don't like the taste of the decaf stuff. This is probably one of the reasons I have been slow losing weight though. For anyone who seriously needs to reduce it or have none at all, I can imagine the withdrawals, because if I don't have mine I get headaches, not good I know, Ummm, am I addicted?? yes! One coffee and my headache is gone...Kallie ..................................................................... Guest guest
You really don't notice much difference in the decaf coffee?? Probably can buy half and half with the beans that you grind yourself too?? I like the coffee in the morning and don't notice the side effects but could probably benefit anyway with the lowe caffeine amouths. At night I light to have some and then can't sleep at times. Re: Giving up Caffeine.............. I had to go no caffeine too. I had really bad headaches. So, what I did was buy a can of regular coffee and a can of decaff and mixed them together to have 1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular. (I noticed at Walmart Supercenter the other day that you ca now buy it mixed this way.) The next time I bought I did 3/4 decaff and 1/4 regular and saved the rest of the regular for guests. The next can was all decaff and I don't have headaches and can't tell the difference now. I also did this with tea and the soft drinks didn't make a big difference, I don't drink many of them anyway and I could drink the caffeine free, I like the Diet Rite best. Guest guest
Hey Max, I was so addicted to Diet Coke and only gave it up once when I was pregnant. Basically that is all I would ever drink. I almost never had water or juice or milk. I knew I had a problem because of that. I gave up caffiene for New Years this year and since I was so addicted to it for so many years, it was really hard. I'm so glad I gave it up and am pretty sure I will never go back to caffiene. I would get terrible headaches if I didn't have my daily supply and I was tired of being a slave to caffiene. It took me a long time to get over the headaches and sluggishness. I took a lot of Advil (not more than the suggested amount of course). Because it was so hard I don't ever want to go through that again so no more caffiene for me. When I first tried Caffiene Free Diet Coke, I hated it. It was just a weak reminder of what I couldn't have. Now I drink about one can a day. I drink water and juice and milk now, which I never did before. I feel so much better and when I don't drink my water I can tell I don't feel that great. I also buy Sugar Free Kool-Aid. I sometimes drink Diet Rite since there are a few different flavors. I wish you the best of luck and for me, it was so worth it. I drink water also, but I > enjoy a good cold diet coke a couple of times a day! > > Lifetime since 1/3/03 (almost a year!!!) I not only continued to drink them, but drink MORE coffee now than I ever did before. (Probably the cause of my kidney stones.) It never seemed to affect my weight loss. I think it never hurts to try to see if something is causing you problems, but it's also important to be honest with yourself in all areas. Just an example from my husband. He decided that he'd read that caffiene and diet sodas could slow down weight loss (which I don't think is necessarily true for all people). So he says to me, " I haven't been losing lately so I think I'm going to cut out diet Coke. " Well I eat every meal but lunch with him and I know that he'd stopped asking for no cheese on things when we go out, he eats VERY good at home but if we do eat out he makes better choices, but not the best. The fact is he'd let other areas of his nutrition slip and stopping drinking Diet Coke wasn't going to help undo a chicken sandwich with cheese and french fried onions and butter on it. He tried it for awhile and it had no effect (duh). Finally he got honest with himself when I pointed out that as we were discussing it he, he was eating a burrito with cheese and if he'd just asked for no cheese that would have been 3 less points right there. He was frustrated and did what we all do at times, grasped onto something he read. The truth is, if you read every " study " that comes down the pike eventually you'll have to stop eating and drinking altogether because for every one that says this, there's another that disputes it saying THAT not far behind. Studies aren't perfect and one study may be very important, or it may mean nothing. And even then, the human body is different. For example it has been shown time and time again (which proves a good study) that smoking is directly related to increased lung cancer. Yet I bet we all know someone in our lives who smoked for 45 years and finally died of natural causes at a ripe old age. That doesn't mean that smoking doesn't cause cancer. That just means that, for some reason, that person's body did not react to smoking the way most people's bodies will. The body is a curious thing. Now to finish my coffee. Guest guest
Sounds like my sister. She doesn't lose any weight and says " I'm doing all the right things. Must be my metabolism " . Guest guest
I drink coffee off and on all day, but I also get my water in most days. When I decided to embrace WW as a lifestyle change, I decided to work it around caffeine, because I felt it was unrealistic and unnecessary to give up caffeine. I am a lifetime member who strayed for a bit, but caffeine had nothing to do with that. I've since taken off the extra pounds I put back on and have been slightly below my goal weight for a few months now. I admit I used to enjoy hopping on the scales and seeing a loss, just as I enjoy seeing that I've maintained when I weigh now, but I never expected it to happen over night ...and it doesn't. No one food or beverage put the weight on us and omitting one particular item won't take it off. It requires consistently & honestly working the program until it becomes second nature to us ...a lifestyle choice. Happy Holidays Everybody! Joy I not only continued to drink them, but drink MORE coffee now than I ever did before. (Probably the cause of my kidney stones.) It never seemed to affect my weight loss. Guest guest
well I don't want to give it up, I drink it in diet coke form myself.. the reason I want to limit it is more that my " safe " and " aproved " snacks don't taste very good with pop, so when I drink a pop for a snack time, it seems to increase the likelyhood of eating bad stuff, like a candy bar out of the vending machine.. so I'm trying to limit pop to meals or like with popcorn... A big problem for me is I work 10 hr days, so I realllly need that caffeine around 3pm, when I start to nod off. becides, I don't think it's a bad thing to eat/drink anything in moderation... I could chug a whole 2 liter of pop if I really tried.
