Guest guest
Hi Billie You can rest assured that your neph is right about the iron being necessary for Procrit (or any other epo) to work). Most people on hemodialysis get IV iron while on the machine. I get one dose per month. I hope you can get it without any problem. I think it's great that you are being referred to attend pre-dialysis class when your creatinine is at about 3. That's entirely appropriate, and it gives you a very good headstart on thinking about what type of treatment you might choose. They usually also include a presentation by the dietician, and at mine, a nephrologist also spoke and provided some very valuable information. Pierre Latest results from neph. Hi everyone, just back from a short vacation-rest in Virginia at the farm. I went to the Neph. to get my lab test results-iron very low so I am waiting to find a hospital that will do four IV iron solutions as I don't have insurance. Neph says in order to take Procrit shots I will need the IV iron first to rebuild the iron supply so the Procrit shots will work. I am off of Cytoxin as of 9/9/04 and now I am starting on Imuran and also get to drop my predisone down to 20 mg a day. My protein is still down to 1/2 gram a day so very happy about that. I will be going to my first meeting Sept. 16th about Dialysis also. My creatitine is 2.9 also started on Crestor for chloestroel. I suppose things are going as expected or what is expected? Hope all are having a good week. I am so pleased to have this group for support and I see the group is growing daily. God Bless each and everyone one of you. A SPECIAL HELLO TO LAURA. Guest guest
Billie great to hear from you. I'm glad you were able to get away for a bit and rest in Virginia. It's great that your protein level has stayed down but I'm sorry to hear you are going to the pre-dialysis classes soon. Bummer but at least your neph is on top of things and can ease you into this next stage. I had my labs drawn on Tuesday and see my neph on the 16th.....I'll let ya know what it shows. I'm truly hoping the " off " feeling I've had lately is due to stress and not due to decline in kidney function. Glad you are back and let us know how things go on the 16th. (depending on my results I may have some questions to ask you!) Amy Latest results from neph. Hi everyone, just back from a short vacation-rest in Virginia at the farm. Guest guest
Hi Billie, I am so happy that you were able to take a vacation and get some rest in Virginia. That sounds so wonderful. It is very good that your Neph is getting you ready for Procrit. They really help, and iron is important. Mine is currently low too and I have to start Iron supplements. Oh great...another pill to swallow every day :-) I am thrilled to hear that you protein is down to 1/2 a gram a day. That is fantastic news that the treatment is working! I pray your great results continue as you start your Prednisone wean and switch to Imuran. I am right in step with you because my class for dialysis is on Sept 13th. I'll let you know how it goes. Take care of yourself and God bless you too! Guest guest
Hi Billie, I am concerned about you with your depression. As you may remember, I had a very severe depression myself a few years back so I completely understand pulling back from friends and family. I want to encourage you though to reach out even when it is the hardest. The thing that got me through was letting a couple of my friends know and they came by my side and prayed with me and for me every single week for months. Those friends expanded to a circle of 5 women who we fondly refer to as " the treasures " and their prayer support as we navigate through life is the most precious gift. I really hope you can find some women who can be your treasures. I know how hard it is to reach out in the middle of the darkness of depression. It is often the hardest call to make, but the most important. Please know you are not alone. You are in my prayers, and even though depression is a very difficult place to be, there is the other side and you WILL get through this. Don't forget to count your blessings because focuses on all we have to give thanks for really helps too. God bless you!
