Barbara,

Please let us know what you and your docs decide to do. I bet however

it is decided to proceed, that getting rid of the stone will be the

best in the long run.

barbara,

sorry to hear about all your problems with the rib and back pain. ive been experiencing this alot lately myself with low back pain and very severe rib pain. the pain feels deep but also on the surface and it feels like my ribs are bruised almost but also feels like they are on fire. is this anything like what you are experiencing? the back pain isnt as bad as the rib pain. i cant even put any pressure on my ribs. told pain dr and he didnt seem to concerned, but gonna bring it up to my rheumatologist next time i see her cuz like yours its getting worse. it also makes my chest tight and causes me more probs with breathing too. one dr said it might be costochondritis (inflammation between ribs) but ive had that before and this is different. The PT im doing in the water isnt helping much either. Keep me posted on what you find out and if anything changes. ill keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

take care,

adrienne

Hi ,

Haven't been online much so just saw your message....bless your

heart. Thanks for thinking of me. The urologist decided my pain is

not being caused by the kidney stone...he also said it was not in a

good position for lithotripsy, so for now I am stuck with it. I am

still having a lot of pain...a band of pain in my ribs and around to

my back. Hard to sleep or move or do anything. It is getting worse

instead of better, which is discouraging. Positions that used to be

more comfortable no longer are. Last week, my internist said he

thought I had a nerve problem in my spine and that the nerve endings

that reach around to my ribs were irritated. Not sure that would

account for the deep soreness and aching thoughout my middle, but it

could explain the intermittent burning needles in my ribs. He did

not offer much treatment....said an anesthesiologist could do a

block, but I'm leary of that. I do have some pain meds I can take,

but they don't help that much and anyway I would prefer to treat

CAUSE.... Meanwhile trying to figure out what I can do to make the

pain better. Using heat, creams, etc. At times it affects my

breathing and I get tightness in the chest and coughing which I

think is due to muscle weakness in the chest. Lungs look okay on

xray. When I can, I'm going to email Anne the PT with more details

and ask for any PT suggestions that might help. She is always so

practical.

Take care, and hope you are okay.

Barbara,

Have they considered doing a MRI of the trunk area to see if anything shows up?

Thinking of you!

Thanks, . No to the MRI, but I wish they would. they did do an

abdominal sonogram and checked liver, pancreas, spleen and both

kidneys.

Thanks, Adrienne....yes, your symptoms do sound similar. I will look

up costochondritis see if that sounds possible. What did they do for

that? Any treatment? After 3 months of this, I'm feeling pretty

desperate for help.

Barbara,

Hi. The reason i dont think either of ours is costochondritis is because that is usually pain near the breast bone not all of the ribs. My dr just told me to take my pain meds for the pain now and im on prednisone and since they felt it was caused by inflammation, they upped my pred for a week. Hasnt helped much with the rib pain though. A heating pad helps some but cant keep it on long, dont like the heat. ill keep you posted on if i find something else or find the cause.

take care,

adrienne

Dear Barbara, i don't know if I can contribute anything useful or

not. i have a bad pain at the bottom of my rib cage, in the center

that radiates straight through to my back.I had all the usual sort of

ultrasounds, mris etc but everything organ wise seemed fine. Finally

my gastroenterologist suggested it might be muscular. Mt PCP was

hopeless in helping but my physio(ah, here comes Anne!) was very

helpful and " diagnsoed " the problem as being to do with shortening of

my rectus and/or ? abd muscles. Since then, she has even given me some

exercises to try and stretch them out. In addition I use a TENS

machine and a combination of trazadone and extra strength tylenol for

pain (better i feel then the dimerol I was on). Anyway, I put it down

to just another weird thing in my weird diesase, Celia-

Very interesting. Thanks, Celia! The last few days I have noticed

that the rib pain is definitely worse when I lie flat--I feel a

pulling, tightening sensation in the lower ribs and waist in

addition to the pain--this is relieved somewhat by curling or

bending my legs. Seems to take the pressure off the rib area.

Hmmm....
