Guest guest
Tammy, I didn't necessarily have more ultrasounds because of my surgery...I think I had 3 ultrasounds...one at 11 weeks to determine due date and heartbeat..one at 19 weeks just to do measurements and because I demanded one and one at 31 weeks to do more measurements because I have lost about 60 lbs since becoming pregnant...baby was right along on schedule on all 3! I'll be 40 wks this friday and am sooooo ready! Hope this answers your question. Guest guest
Tammy, I did have more ultrasounds than my ob does for his " normal " patients. BUT, it wasn't necessarily because I had wls. I lost 40 pounds throughout my pregnancy. So he ordered them to track the growth and development of the baby, which was right on target every time. I am pregnant for a second time since wls. I haven't gained and I haven't lost up to this point. So I haven't had any " extra " ultrasounds as of yet. I have my 20 week ultrasound (it will actually be 21 weeks) scheduled for April 30. But this is a routine ultrasound that my ob does for all his patients. Guest guest
Hi Tammy, I just had my son in December after having wls in June of 2000. My ob did frequent ultrasounds. I didnt ever get the idea that he was doing them because of my surgery though. He may have been, but he had an ultrasound machine in his office, so it was convenient. He would always just say, " do you guys want to see the little guy today " or " lets see how the little guy is growing " Something to that affect. I did have at least an ultrasound a month though, which was nice, because we got to see him so much. Marcy Ultrasounds Hi, It's me again. With those of you that are pregnant currently or have had babies, were ultrasounds ordered more frequently, since you had had some form of WLS? Just curious as to the census on this. I've got an e-mail into my surgeon to ask what he recommends, but haven't heard back from him yet. Just wanted to find out from experienced ladies out there what was your experiences with ultrasounds. Thanks for all your replies. Guest guest
I had 12 ultrasounds in my pre-op pregnancy and 10 in my post-op pregnancy. I had that many because I have Epilepsy, and the baby is closley monitored as I take anti-convulsants.
Guest guest
I should add that in my 2nd pregnancy the baby was monitored more closley as well to track his growth, as I got pregnant 7 weeks post-op from my Open -RNY.
Guest guest
I am 24 weeks and have only gotten 1 sonogram. I was stunned. I thought that since I had WLS they would be more intrested in giving me more sonograms to see how it has been progressing. I am a high risk only because of preeclampsia in my former pregnancies. Not because of a risk situation in this pregnancy. In m first pregnancy I got three sonograms and with my twins I got 3 regular sonograms at a hospital and a quick one at almost every office visit until I was 6 months along, with the doctors office machine. I think it also has something to do with insurances. My current carrier only pays for 2, so I didn't get one until i was 21 weeks, and I probably won't get another until I am closer to delivery. Guest guest
I have had 6 u/s, but 4 were because of spotting, the 5th was my level 2, which was around 20 weeks, then the last one was at the high risk doctors, and I am not high risk due to the surgery, its because of my gestational diabetes and I have had toxemia in 2 of my past pregnancies, so i will go again to the high risk docs on the 18th, and thats what he does is ultrasounds and checks the doctors records, so I wil have a few more times to lok at this precious little boy before he is born Robin RNY 2/27/2002 E.D.D 7/20/2003 5 precious children to light the way
Guest guest
I work OB & L & D so I was " looking at the little guy " usually once per shift....lol. As far as " formal US " 's go, I had 10. (1 to rule out ectopic, 2 to check for heartbeat, one at 16 weeks to check size, then 4 more as pre-term labor started, one during my amnio and one right before the c-section to make sure he was head down). Guest guest
> I have a question for all of you ladies that have had children before > WLS. Do you feel like you have had the same number or more u/s as > pre-op pregnancies? How many u/s have you had during your pregnancies? I had one...and that was only because I requested it. Our next pregnancy, I probably won't have any at all. I do not feel that I had any more than I did before WLS. My midwife wasn't worried at all...baby was growing just fine. Guest guest
I personally do not believe in ultrasounds. With my first one (I was 33 and naive in regards to pregnancy and delivery <pre WLS>), I allowed the medical staff to do any and everything to me. I probably had over 5 ultrasounds in the course of the pregnancy. With my second one (I was 38 and had educated myself to pregnancy/delivery with the help of a midwife friend, an OB nurse friend and my Doula <post WLS>) and had only one ultrasound when I had the amnio. With #3 cooking, I am planning to only have one again and that will be with the amnio. ~ BabyCopia ~ Unique and Original Baby Products www.babycopia.com
