Guest guest
, Although I have never been thru your situation I can sympathize. If I were you I would call my OB again and tell her how worried you are. Or, I would go to the ER. I have heard alot of woman have spotting in the beginning of the pregnancy and everything turned out okay. I wish I could give you more advice. But, if you are worried, call you OB again. I will be thinking of you. D.
Guest guest
The light spotting you refer to could very easily be implantation bleeding. As the little embryo (called a blastocyst at this stage) comes into your uterus, it decides on an appropriate spot and then the cells on the surface of the blastocyst secrete enzymes that facilitate burrowing into the lining of the uterus. Your uterine lining is highly vascularized and thus bleeds when this implantation occurs... many of us do not notice it. You have a whole lot of time ahead of you. The loss rate of early embryos is very high but most of us never know because it is lost in time for the next period. It is often best to not be hypervigilant re: knowing every little detail during this early period. Spend you energy on eating very well and taking your prenatals, laying the ground work. Guest guest
Hi , I'm not sure how regular your periods have been, but if they've just started again, or they weren't regulated yet, you LMP won't give you an accurate due date. The brownish type discharge may be from implantation.. I had it also, but I thought I was starting my period! lol (pregnancy was not even on my mind at that point).. I know it's going to be hard until you get some REAL answers, but try not to worry, it'll only make it worse!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! edd: 9/22/03 > [Original Message] > > To: <OSSG-pregnant > > Date: 5/10/2003 11:51:11 AM > Subject: Need help > > Hi ladies, > > I am new to this group. Guest guest
Hey gang, I need help this time. Feeling really aweful and it's beginning to feel like a downward spiral lately. Absolutely no energy, nauseus at every turn and still loosing weight. I force myself to eat but it's about as tastey as sawdust and I have the WORST taste in my mouth ever since the surgery. It doesn't appear to be thrush but I've tried the nyastatin anyways and it doesn't help. I have taken metoclopramide (generic for reglan) for nausua but it knocks me out. Today was a milestone - 20 pounds lost since I came home from hospital a month and a half ago. I am NOT happy about this. Granted I could stand to loose a few pounds, but not like this. My heart has been galloping around lately and it's starting to scare me....in fact all of it is today as stare at the cold hard facts. I've talked to the doc about all this but there's never anything they can seem to do. I called because my ileostomy was literally pouring out that night...and has been a lot lately. I understand (finally) that it has to do with not eating right...but I'm forcing food and it should be enough to stanch this it seems. And yet it continues. My stoma has also shrunk, again (down from 2.5 to 1 inch now). I was hoping to get back to work this coming week, but, as mentioned, the last few days just seem like a huge setback and spiral to me...not helping my mindset at all. Any suggestions? I'm starting to feel like a nag now when I call the doctor...and he's out for two weeks as well. How serious should I be taking this? I'm due to have reconnection surgery within the next month. I'm worried about not being up for it. Thanks guys - I just really needed to get these concerns out there and get other points of view on this. Guest guest
Hi Jolene...thanks for the reply and well wishes. I popped back in to actually clarify a few things - got offline before and thought, gee wasn't all that clear on a couple of things...that brain fog kicking in I guess. Did you have it reversed that fast??? wow....if that's the case. That's terrific. Glad to hear that things got better soon afterwards. well....going to send in another note ...but thanks again. Guest guest
Karima, Guess I was lucky to have the chemo/rad first, then the ileo....I don't know at this point. It took me a while to understand what the doc REALLY meant when he said that the ileo continues to produce even if you don't eat. What he REALLY meant wasn't that it just continues to produce juices, but that the level of it really really increases. Makes it go kind nuts. I found this out from the ET nurse the other day. So...I guess, if you can eat...eat....I know how hard it is though. Especially when you are alone. I stocked up on the stuff I liked...fast frozen stuff...but it helped get me through. Wish it did now! Well...take care. Feel better and thanks for writing. Sheila

Guest guest
Golly Sheila Sure wish I could help you out. I know after my surgery on Oct 1 my appetite was zero and food tasted like crap... After the re-do on Oct 8, it was like a new day - food tasted good again but had me on IV bag food for 24 hours.. Yuk. Dying of thirst and was lucky to get mouth swab... That part was miserable. Course hospital food is just plain terrible. The nurses said it depends on who is cooking. Drat... LOL. Anyway hopefully someone else will pop in and give you some good advice. I will think good thoughts for you.. Hope you feel better soon. Jolene Need help Hey gang, I need help this time. Guest guest
No Was not a reverse.. I sprung a leak in my incision and when they took out staples to check it out, they saw it was open all the way inside, so I had to go down to surgery for a re-do -- stitched me up like a turkey with retention clamps (ouch). I felt better over all, but those darn clamps sure did make it uncomfortable. Was really glad when they came out. Cheers Jolene Re: Need help Hi Jolene...thanks for the reply and well wishes. Guest guest
Dear Sheila, I know what you mean about a downward spiral. Maybe it is something in the stars (like retrograde). Ok, now you know I am a nut. I have been fighting depression seriously for weeks and sick to my stomach. I just finished 3rd week of radiation and like you have had like a faucet running in the colostomy. I am reduced to mostly tea and toast which I don't mind. My doc had told me to give my GI tract a break and go on liquids. Karima (who is hoping you feel better) Need help Hey gang, I need help this time. Guest guest
Karima They are really annoying.. Hope the reversal goes well. Tell me about it. Surgery is like panicsville to me almost. Had some anxiety when they decided to put in the portacath... Said I did not want to be knocked out. So was consciously sedated, although I certainly did tune out for awhile, because when I came back they were almost done. Boy was I glad. LOL.. Now the thought of maybe needing surgery on my lung is those nodules prove to be threatening does bother me alot. I dread it but so it goes. Will do what I have to do to get better. Do I dread chemo as much.. You bet. LOL.. What I hate is being on coumadin. That drug has so many " watchouts " that it is ridiculous. Can't even eat broccoli and other green leafy vegetables, or green tea, cranberry juice. Acetominaphen, nsaids, aspirin. Though it did say - prolonged use or large doses of Acetominphen. So I could maybe get by with 2 tylenol at night. The old age aches and pains have sure come out since my surgery too. Groan... Well I think I covered all my gripes.Waiting for daughter and kids to get ready so we can head out to the pub. Take care. Guest guest
Karima Actually we ate and we were home before 10 pm. Could have been a good evening, but when the drunks started going on stage and made like they could sing with the performer (he invited them for that matter) - and they played chug-a-lug we decided it was time to leave. They should at least keep it clean until 10 pm or so. Some folks bring kids along and they don't need to be seeing stuff like that. Was very disappointed... Guest guest
Hi Sheila - this is just a thought. It's interesting you say the reglan knocks you out because reglan for me was like being on an amphetamine. It was horrible! I couldn't sit still, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, etc. Needless to say, I stopped that med pretty quickly. Could it be something else that's knocking you out and the reglan that is contributing to your appetite loss and heart galloping? Maybe you could try compazine or something else? I also found that eating bland, salty food was about all I could stomach during treatment. I lived on pretzels and crackers. I also ate a lot of cheese which is high calorie, so kept me from losing too much. Try egg nog too if you like that and it doesn't upset your stomach. I love egg nog and now relish the thoughts of my chemo days (well, not really but you know what I mean) when I HAD to eat the high cal foods like egg nog to keep from losing too much. I never got too, too skinny, but it was scary to lose a lot of weight quickly, so I know what you mean. Seriously, try switching up the reglan. Good luck. > Hey gang, > > I need help this time. Guest guest
Zofran may help the nausea. Another drug that is helpful is Ativan. Carnation instant Brakfast combined with ice cream, sherbert, etc., packs a lot of calories and taste pretty good. Go to http://www.carnationinstantbreakfast.com For recipes .. And as someone suggested Eggnog is great and plentiful this time of year. Good Luck and God Bless Narice

Guest guest
Sheila, Keep up the hope. You need to take it seriously as well. I'd do a couple of things. First, I'd keep swishing and swallowing with the nystatin - sometimes it takes a while to get to work. There is also a medication that you can take that does a better job - it is called diflucan. Might want to ask about it. I think fatty things leave a worse taste in you mouth than other stuff - you might have some luck with fresh fruits and cold meats bound with cold lettuce and stuff like that that. When I was loosing weight, if I'd had a urge to have something - i.e. I imagined a food that would not taste awful, I would get it and do my best to eat it. Now that I think about it, frozen yogurt and ice cream weren't that bad (hopefully you not doing oxaliplatin). If nausea is a problem, as the doctor for different nausea medicine - there are many, many kinds. Zofran worked best for me. Stay out of the kitchen as much as possible - smells make it worse. But most of all - don't get down. Minor miracles happen. Consider my story - I was operated on in February at 175lbs. In March, started FOLFOX - consistently was loosing 5lbs per treatment. Then, switched to FOLFIRI (thats when I started doing frozen yogurt). Was still loosing up to 5lbs per treatment, until july. By that time, I was at about 145lbs. From then on, have been on a chemo vacation and have gotten most, if not all strength back - in fact, I'm up to about 192lbs (in 4-5 months, not bad). Similar times will happen for you as well - you just got to hang in there until then and keep an open mind for when the chemotherapy is doing more harm than good. I do not recall if you are stage III or IV - if you are stage IV, like I, I think sometimes its advisable to readjust you treatment plan to go from cancer killing to body building - cancer killing does not make sense if you feel yucky all of the time; at the same time though, taking the sacrifice and mixing it in can definitely maximize the amount of feeling good time you have as well. Don't hesistate ever to drop a line or post if you need some advise or encouragement. Best - Joe http://www.cancerdaytoday.blogspot.com > Hey gang, > > I need help this time. Guest guest
I had a reaction to reglan. I was in the hospital after my 1st surgery and I started shaking unconrollably. It was wierd. I guess my pain killers had gone down a bit in dosage or something. It didn't really hurt but it was scary and my wife and sister-in-law had these wide eyed looks that made it worse. Miracles happen! I think though there are probably a few people on here that could be quite helpfull. Chantelle
