Guest guest
My OS doesn't think running again is a good idea , Dr. Gross says you can start running 6 months after surgery . how much running is ok ?? what surface ?? treadmill ?? could the high impact cause premature loosening or wear ?? any more details would be appreciated . Dr. Goldberg C+ , 1/28/03 " Jim " <jpuglisi@buffalo To: surfacehippy .k12.ny.us> cc: Subject: THR vs MOM 04/22/2003 10:22 AM Please respond to surfacehippy I am now almost 6 weeks post-op from an MOM and feeling better everyday. I did extensive research on all types of hip replacement before selecting the MOM. The reasons were simple: 1. Does not cause leg lengthing, therefore reducing any chance of stress sheilding. 2. Maintains the bone structure. 3. Eliminates any chance of Osteolytis, therefore reducing the chance of revision. 4. Enables me to return to the lifestyle I enjoyed before arthritis stripped me of it. (i.e. running which Dr. Mont said I can resume in September) I am just very pleased that I was a candidate for an MOM, I also understand that not everyone is a candidate alot depends on age, bone struture and density. But to take a " Sour Grapes " attitude is very immature. The point of any Hip surgery is to get back a better quality of life. I agree with the Captain, there isn't anything that Geoffery could say that should make any surface hippies think they made a poor decision. Now for my favorite part. Guest guest
, at his point I have no idea. My plans are to start slow on a running track. The surface is very soft compared to blacktop or concrete. I plan on starting with 9 to 12 miles/week and seeing how the hip reacts. I do not intend to run more than 20 miles/week regardless. > > My OS doesn't think running again is a good idea , Dr. > Gross says > you can start running 6 months after surgery . > > how much running is ok ?? what surface ?? treadmill ?? > could the high impact cause premature loosening or wear ?? > > any more details would be appreciated . > > Dr. Goldberg C+ , 1/28/03 >

Guest guest
If you have 'soft bones' - possibly caused by lack of use of the leg for months prior to surgery - your Doctor may advise no impact activities (eg running) for up to a year following surgery. If your bone stock is good - then running may be OK as soon as the soft tissue and bone have actually healed. george.sekulidis@... on 22/04/2003 16:01:59 To: surfacehippy cc: bcc: From: george.sekulidis@..., 22 April 2003, 4:01 p.m. Contact: Contact: Re: Re: THR vs MOM Thanks , Jim . Guest guest
Actually , i was told my bone stock was excellent .......... i had simple OA , no AVN i only had hip pain for 7 months prior to surgery and was able to exercise pretty well prior to surgery ......... with some pain , of course . it just seems like running or other high impact exercise would be much more stressful on the components than other activities . i was just curious what other OS have to say about running after surgery " Isobel Hotten " <isobel.hotten@yel To: surfacehippy lgroup.com> cc: Subject: Re: Re: THR vs MOM 04/22/2003 11:10 AM Please respond to surfacehippy If you have 'soft bones' - possibly caused by lack of use of the leg for months prior to surgery - your Doctor may advise no impact activities (eg running) for up to a year following surgery. Guest guest
I've always taken it as Metal On Metal which can be true for THR as well as resurfacing. As a generalisation the 3 major prosthesis for resurfacing are MOM. McMinn, the surgeon who is responsible for modern day resurfacing (as was Treacy), got the MOM idea from metal on metal THR as I understand it.
