Does anyone think weight has anything to do with incision length? I'm rather

thin and there's not going to be a lot to have to go through to get to where

my OS needs to be to get to my hip joint.

I'm basically trying to gain/maintain weight at this point, (3 weeks prior to

surgery). I think I've heard that you lose about 10 lbs. after this surgery,

or perhaps any surgery. Any insight on this?

I gotta tell you, guys, I'm sitting here with my two 12 inch incisions and

reading about 4 and 5 inch incisions and just not believing it. I mean maybe Mr.

Treacy made the second one 12 inches to match the first but I dunno.

I think that if anyone has a less than 10 inch incision, they should attach a

photo or I'm just not going to believe it. Please use a modesty panel, of

course. :-)

Some notes to hopefully help you. . . .

Well. . .I didn't loose any weight from the surgery or being in the hospital

or for that matter being as quiet as I have been for the past month. I am

amazed at how recovery has been smooth with every day being better than the one

before. I can say my appetite was more pronounced right upon arriving home

from the hospital. I had a brief period where I HAD to get up in the middle of

the night and eat really cold sweet watermelon:-) Go figure! But it made my

whole self incredibly happy. I weighed 140 before the surgery. . . . weighed

in for surgery @136 . . . . and yesterday weighed myself @ 43 and I am 5'8 " .

I have not measured but think my incision is about 8 inches. I too am not

bone thin but certainly not a heavy weight. I can easily press & feel my bones.

.. . . My friend Kathy who had her surgery just three days after mine is a

beautiful, petite, woman with dancer legs, a small butt and very little excess

to her body. Her incision is similar in length to mine.

Cheers:-)

Thanks, Kathy. You're the first one who said anything to make me feel better.

Hi,

I had my incision measured by the nurse who took checked the dressing and

it is 7 inches long. I am 5'3'' and weigh 107 lbs. I do think the size of

ones leg may have something to do with it. I had subcutaneous sutures and

my incision looks great, tomorrow I will be 4 weeks post-op. It has been an

amazingly easy recovery for me, even counting the time right after the

surgery in the hospital. Kathy Dr. Kennedy rt. hip C2K 5/27/03

scar?.

I have to disaggree with anyone who thinks that size unless grossly

different from the norm in one way or another, has anything to do

with the length of the incision. As I posted earlier, my bilat scars

are about 5 " long. I am 5'8 " and my legs are as long as my husband's

legs and he's 6'. A 32 " inseam on pants is nice when I can find

it. I'm also not what you would call a light weight. :) No

muscles were cut in my surgery, the necessary ones were separated.
