Guest guest
Hi My neph never suggested it and I have never had a flu shot. But on a luckier note I have never in my life had flu, not even a cold, and I am nearly 58. W In a message dated 8/27/2004 6:14:49 P.M. Guest guest
Wow Bill, what a terrifying ordeal! I am glad you wrote to underscore the importance of getting our flu shots. None of us would wish to go through that. I am so glad you pulled through. Guest guest
Now , that is what I call a tremendous blessing. I have never known anyone who has not had even a cold in their lives. You are one of the healthiest people I have ever heard of. Congratulations, and all I can say is keep doing what you are doing. I know you are very careful with your diet, and I am sure that attributes to your health and strong immune system. Guest guest
Heck, you guys have all convinced this aged sceptic. Even though I never have had flu, yet, maybe I should get a shot anyway. Thanks for the horror stories and advice. W In a message dated 8/27/2004 9:32:46 P.M. I almost died in March 2002 from flu (real flu - not just runny nose and fever 'gee maybe I'll stay home from work tomorrow flu'). The flu hit me and put me in bed for about a week before my family realized I could no longer get out of bed on my own, hadn't urinated in a few days, and I was having hallucinations. Why? Apparently my kidneys shut down soon after the flu hit. On top of that I had pneumonia. When they did a blood workup on me I think they had to double check their equipment to see if it was working right. My kidneys were not in bad shape to begin with, by the way. I had IGAN, but my numbers were pretty good. My family got me to an emergency room where they realized how bad off I was - they stuck me in an ambulance to get me to an ICU in Topeka. I spent 3 days in ICU in an oxygen mask with a cardiac crash cart next to my bed while they waited to see if they could get enough oxygen in my so I wouldn't go into arrest. My doctors all prepped my wife for the possibility that I was going to die. During that time my nephrologists was pumping various combinations of drugs into me to see if he could make my kidneys come on line again (my wife and I had to sign waivers for that), while prepping me for the probability that I would be on dialysis within a couple of days if I survived. I'll hand it to my nephrologist - he managed to annoy my kidneys enough that they started working again. Anyway, I spent 3 days in ICU and another 12 in the hospital along with a couple of months trying to recuperate because I had the flu. We figure I spent 10 days without being able to eat and almost that without being able to drink (when your kidneys quit - urine builds in the blood - everything tastes like it at least in my case). If you want to chance it, it's up to you. I'm pretty much the first in line when flu shots come out now. _______________________________________________ Bill Kuhn - MCSE, MCP+I bkuhn@... I've never had that, and I don't think it has anything to do with IgAN. I've heard of it though: depersonalization and/or derealization. Anxiety can cause it.
