Guest guest
that I am getting all my ducks in a row. 1. Diagnosis T2NX estrogen+ carsinoma in situ and invasive two weeks ago 2. Met with an excellent breast surgeon last week. Wants me to schedule surgery within 2 months. All the literature, I've seen indicates this is a safe course of action and helps to have the time to do all that is necessary to prepare. If it needs to be postponed for any reason will put me on an anti estrogen med. At the time of the mastectomy, he will do a sentinel node biopsy which will determine if any nodes need to be taken and if I will need radiation and chemo. 3. Met with my PT and we are working on tendinitis of the right shoulder as mastectomy will be on that side. she will, also, be able to assist me after surgery. 4. Saw one reconstructive surgeon didn't like, only offered implants so will be seeing one who is experienced in trans flap and implants on Monday. I don't wear a bra so this is a really necessary consideration. A hiatial hernia makes them very uncomfortable for me. 5. Am seeing a nutritionist next week to go over diet. Is already pretty good as I am a diet controlled diabetic and my numbers are good, just a tad higher due to the stress. 6. Have ordered the following tape which the surgeon says I can listen to during surgery http://www.healthjourneys.com/product_detail.asp?id=29 It has been proven, in studies, to influence surgery and recovery in a positive way. 7. Will be seeing an accupunturist. 8. Will be seeing the GYN who treats my Lichen Sclerosus, next week. There is a slightly increased risk of cancer with this condition. Lucky me. Anyway, does this all sound reasonable for only have been diagnosed 2 weeks ago? Thanks for your input. Ruth

I was under the impression that was what my surgeon had planned, but after surgery found out he only did sentinel node with lumpectomy, and routinely removed all lymph nodes with mastectomy. I was, and am, dissapointed at having non-cancerous nodes removed. (No cancer in any of them). Best wishes to you! (from Wa. Guest guest
, I will definitely double check about the sentinel node biopsy, at time of mastectomy. I am going to have the surgeon show me, on my breast, exactly where the incisions will be and what he will be taking. , I had a core biopsy, a little less than 2 weeks ago which came up positive. Lumectomy is not an option as the breast is toooooo small. I will be discussing all forms of reconstruction with the plastic surgeon, including DIEP. I probably don't have enough belly fat though. Probably don't have enough fat period, but would like to explore all the options. Decided to at least start reconstruction, at the time of mastectomy, because I really don't want to have any more surgeries than I have to. A prothesis is not a good option for me as I don't wear a bra. In fact I had to buy a training bra, before the core biopsy, so there would be a place to put the ice pack! Thank you both for your input. Ruth
Guest guest
Ruth sounds good. One thing I need to caution you on. My surgeon said I could listen to a tape during surgery but when it came time to go, the nurse taking me down called to be sure and they said a big NO. Something about when they cauterize an area it could cause major problems. I was a big groggy from something they gave me before hand but check with SURGERY before hand. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
I even had to remove my long time toe ring ! They told me if they had to cauterize anything that it would ark and burn me. I am really sore all over today. I think the whole OR staff jumps on you while they have you under. I have bruises where they shouldn't be. But I am in great spirits. Don't know if I said or not, but my chemo has been postponed again until the 20th. Gonna give me time to heal they say. I wanna get going! Today I am walking around like a 100 year old gorilla. Slow and bent over! Trisha -- Re: Need a little reassurance Ruth sounds good. One thing I need to caution you on. Guest guest
Ruthie- Oh yeah. This sounds like you have everything covered. And I'm amazed how much yours sounds like mine. Including diabetes under control with diet and exercise, and hiatal hernia but I have to add that I have Shingles reoccurring with the stress of waiting. Shingles pain went away after the first week of chemo. Sounds like you are doing good to me and especially since it's been only two weeks. What is Lichen Sclerosus? You are an amazing woman. Guest guest
Trisha I remember when my gall bladder was taken out. The first time I stood up it felt like my stomach would fall out too. I have a major scar in front.....like an upside down smile...and they had a drain put in too. So ten days in the hospital and then home. I had my 16 year old to go grocery shopping and care for me. Couldn't get off the sofa except to go to the bathroom. I had to delay surgery long enough to call my insurance company and have him added to my car insurance, which only took a phone call. What a nice kid he's turned out to be......will be 46 this year.....and he's my baby!! You have been what......seven days since surgery....I wasn't even home. Glad you could have just those small openings. Bosom Buddy Janet/WA

Guest guest
-In getting all your ducks in a row and getting everything done before your mastectomy may I make a suggestion. Get plenty of shirts that button down the front. After the surgery, You will have a hard time raising your arm to put a pullover type blouse on. Also, when you are released from the hospital have someone bring a pillow that you can put between the seatbelt and your chest. Some police are not very understanding in some states and it might be just your luck to get pulled over from the hospital to home. My prayers are with you Pert -- In breastcancer2 , " etta2809 " wrote: > > > > > > that I am getting all my ducks in a row. > > 1. Guest guest
Janet, We do sound a lot alike, what with the diabetes, diet controlled, yeah for us, and the hiatial hernia. You have shingles while I have Lichen Schlerosus. I have probably had it since childhood, was diagnosed 3 years ago. To answer your question, it is a dermatalogical condition similiar to exzema that has a special fondness for the vulva, of all places! Unfortunately, it is an under recognized condition in the medical community even among GYNs. It does carry, with it, an increased risk of vulva cancer. Pert, Thanks for the suggestion about front button tops and the pillow! Jeese, I am going to have to get some new clothes. It is cold here and I wear sweat shirts all the time. Guess that won't be an option for awhile. Ruth
