Guest guest
once you finish chemo, how long does it take for your hair to start growing again? Also, does it start out weak (which mine came back in about six weeks after the last treatment, everyone may be a little different. Mine was very white at first but then turned back black with a lot of body and curl- two years out now and it is still more beautiful than ever before chemo. I love it! Guest guest
Good for you. I have a big smile just thinking about it. WOW would I have the nerve?? Not sure. I think one has to have a great sense of self to do that and I applaud you loudly!! I would give the world to be a confident person in my looks. Did you lose your eyebrows and lashes too? Trish, I went with scarves and baseball caps, some hats. Bought a wig but it was uncomfortable to me. Toward the end, I just went bald headed. Got tons of compliments on the "beautiful shape" of my head - really. I always wore fancy dangle earrings so not too many people called me sir. I woke up one morning and had to clean hair off of my pillow. It was after my 1st chemo. I called my nephew who shaves my head and we went to work with the shaver. Guest guest
Hello, I have an additional question on all the hair loss thing. I had my first A/C round eight days ago and I plan on shaving my hair tomorrow, before it starts to fall out. I will be doing A/C for 4 rounds, then 4 more of taxol. I have not totally ruled out the wig possibility but feel much more inclined to do the hat / scarf thing (particularly since I found this site with awesome ways to tie your scarf: http://www.tznius.com/cgi-bin/tying.pl The site is intended for modest Jewish women who cover their hair for religious reasons and this is certainly not me, but I am just interested in the scarf tying techniques). Anyway, my question is: once you finish chemo, how long does it take for your hair to start growing again? Also, does it start out weak (which would probably mean shaving it a couple more times to get it growing strong) or once it starts growing it is already healthy and good-looking? Thank you! And enjoy the rest of the day... Iza in land

Guest guest
Iza, You hair comes back different, but not necessarily worse. I finished F/A/C in May. By July I was fuzzy. Had my first hair cut (trim) in a year in December. That is because I am keeping it very short - may be 2" long. I would never have had the courage to cut it this short, but everyone tells me it is the best I've looked in years. I had kept color on my hair to hide a head full of grey, and the baldness took care of that. My hair came back a great silver grey with some black left in, which is what it would have been if I hadn't colored it. It also came back curly, so all I have to do is give it a little squench in the AM and I'm good to go. So look at about 6 months after you finish, depending on how fast your hair grows and how much chemo you had. My chemo was pretty drastic follicle killing stuff. Guest guest
One more word on hair. All during chemo, my nose dripped unmercifully. I had to have tissues constantly. Didn't realize until a patient told me, you loose the hair in your nose also, so nothing catches the drip, drip, drip. Scarves and hankies?? Deborah aka Deborah Page deborah_ann_page@... Guest guest
Iza, everyone is different and have different experiences. Most women say their hair started growing in within a month and it came back curly, some say straighter then before, most say gray but some say with some color. Some say their hair came back thicker, some say thinner. My last treatment will/should be in April so I won't know until May or June. LICS June "The best protection any woman can have...is courage." Guest guest
Oh my gosh, I haven't had this problem but I never thought about that. How funny, strange funny not haha funny. I still have eyebrows and eyelashes, very thin but enough so I don't feel self conscious. I've never had very hairy legs or underarms. But my nose hasn't been runny, not more than usual anyway. My hair began falling out about three weeks into the Taxol, and was all out including face, underarms, and everywhere else, in the next couple of weeks. It looked really messy until DD2 clipped it nice and short. My scalp was tender at that stage - baseball caps are far too scratchy. In spite of continuing chemo (not Taxol now) there was a faint hint of returning hair at the middle of December, and now it's about 1.5 cms long - still very flat to my head, but dark so it shows. It's growing fine but strong - I wouldn't think I need to shave it again. I quite like it like this, but my head gets too cold so I still wear a hat for warmth. I have taken my hat off in public a few times, when I have felt overheated in the supermarket - nobody looked twice and it felt quite normal. Guest guest
About eyelashes - I had a picture in my mind of Sinead O'Connor the singer - shaved head and lovely face - huge eyes - and I thought, well, I'll wear makeup ... Wrong! I couldn't find anywhere to put the mascara! LOL! So the world just has to take me bald and barefaced; not my problem. <G> Love, Margery. PS sorry my posts are a bit out of step; I get the messages as a digest and catch up on a bunch at a time. ============================================ margery@... in North Herts, UK ============================================
