Guest guest
Meg, it is Ironic that the Irish have so high a carrier rate of cf, approximatel 1 to 7 or 8! and so high a rate of celiac disease. The English have a very high rate of celiac disease as well. There was a great scandal about ten years ago when it was discovered that people whose celiac disease was not completely controlled gradually lost their fingerprints! (who knows why?) Scotland Yard went into a panic at the thought of this allegedly large number of citizens without traceable fingerprints, and the London Times, I believe ran the story. I saw the story on PBS here and nearly died laughing. But then, I don't have celiace disease, and I don't live in England under the survance of Scotland Yard. I can't find my notes on it then; I did send a letter to my middle daughter about it, but she no longer has the letter (how odd!), so I can't just pull up a web page for you all or anything, but thought it was entertaining--and clear proof that celiac patients should defini- tely be compliant with the diet. Best I can do after a wild day, n Rojas
