Guest guest
I am glad your biopsy is behind you. Generally, the condition of one kidney is reflective of the other as well. Therefore, they can get a diagnosis from one kidney. In a message dated 10/13/2004 1:47:36 PM Pacific Daylight Time, carthiana@... writes: > > Had my biopsy done on monday at 12:30pm EST. Guest guest
They only usually biopsy the one kidney. Most kidney diseases that are of the type referred to as glomerulonephritis (of which IgA nephropathy is one) affect both kidneys more or less equally, so there's no need to biopsy both of them. Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group, I'm glad you found us. Sorry to hear that you are having kidney problems that warranted a biopsy. Hopefully your results will be good. They can determine your percent kidney function from your labs, the biopsy is more to determine the type of kidney disease they are dealing with and the extent of damage already done. The combination of your labwork and biopsy helps the neph determine the best course of treatment for you. Only one side is biopsied for the reasons that Pierre gave already. The thing you need to remember is no matter how well you are feeling afterwards make sure you follow your doctors orders to not lift anything heavy for as long as they have told you. For me it was 2 weeks post biopsy I couldn't lift anything over 5lbs...that meant all of my cats had to suffer being petted on the floor or having to *gasp* jump into my lap themselves. ;o) Just remember to rest when you can to allow your body to heal, after all you just had a large needle stuck into a major organ of the body....even if it doesn't hurt much it still needs time. I know waiting is hard but remember the old saying " no news is good news " It holds very true in this instance....I was told it would be about 2 weeks before I heard about my results and 3 days after my biopsy I got a call from my neph saying " How soon can you get here I need to talk to you right away. " due to my biopsy being so bad. It's not a fun call to get...so enjoy your wait. I was on IV steriod treatments before they had my full biopsy report completed due to the very bad initial results. Please let us know what they find out when you do get your results in. How is your creatinine level and are you spilling protein in the urine? Welcome again! And feel free to ask away with questions and check out our sister site at www.igan.ca for tons of great info. Amy G. Biopsy Done > > > Had my biopsy done on monday at 12:30pm EST. Guest guest
> Waiting for biopsy result is stressful-I had to wait between 2-3 weeks after I had mine done. Your kidney function is measured from calculation based on labs or 24 hr urine, but my biopsy stated " significant loss of renal mass " on my report. They do look at the glomeruli(kidney filters) and can see if they are damaged. Best of luck. How is your creatine now? christine > Had my biopsy done on monday at 12:30pm EST. Guest guest
Well despite my prodding for answers, it have yet to get an answer on my creatinine level but I do know that I am spilling protein (the reason for the biopsy on the chart said Hema/Protein so I'm guessing that is what has been spilling in the urine that warrents them proving to the insurance it should be a covered surgery). I wish I knew more, and it is hard to believe it is so hard to get answers with all the questions I'm prodding people with at my doc's office. > Hi, > Welcome to the group, I'm glad you found us. Guest guest
The radiologist called me 2 days after my biopsies. a lot of towns don't have a local lab and the tissues are transported elsewhere. Results can be faxed back but transporting can take a couple of days... Andree www.essentialsoapsinc.com
Guest guest
Hi Dawn and welcome to the group. What you are feeling is normal. Its the fear of the unknown. Now it's just a matter of getting through till Thursday whenI will get the results during my follow up appointment.I have had to rest the last few days of course. But all these thoughtskeep running through my head. I am so scared. On top of that the Dr had to cut to get the calcifications out, and Im not allowed to remove the bandage or the surgical bra. I guess im should be glad that I have to work this week to make time go faster. Just don't know how I will make it through this weekDawn
Guest guest
I don't understand. Why do you all have to wait so long for biopsy results. The radiologist called me 2 days after my biopsies. Of course she asked me the day she did them if I wanted a call or if I wanted to come in and discuss them. I told her I want to know as soon as possible so I can move forward. The biopsies were done on a Wed, she called me on Fri afternoon. You guys need to light a fire under these people. I would have gone nuts if I had to wait. LICS June "The best protection any woman can have...is courage."
