Guest guest
Pam, I wonder if your fast heart rate would be because you are fighting an infection. I would be interested in the answer too. I am just embarking on strength building exercises and haven't checked my heart rate. I am finding the exercises to help with the stiffness and flexibility to a remarkable extent. I wonder if your nervousness and shakiness is because you know yur rate is higher. Pam, I have had puffy areas behind the knees too and they don't hurt. I don't know how big it has to be to be called a cyst. Would a cyst hurt. I wouldn't know my puffy area was there if I didn't look. Bev > > Two questions: > A. I was just diagnosed with RA a few weeks ago. I'm a runner (maybe a former runner now, but maybe not). Because of years of running, I am very aware of my resting heart rate (in low 60s). Now....in the past 4-8 weeks, I've noticed it is higher. Now it is in the 80s sometimes, or at least in the mid-70s. It makes me feel a bit nervous/shaky sometimes....not a lot but enough to be noticeable. > I told my rheumy, he said he didn't know. > > B. Off and on over the past 10 years I've had what I thought was a Baker's Cyst behind my knee. That is a painless swelling that comes and goes on its own. You can't " see " it, I just can feel it when wearing pantyhose, tights, etc. I had always thought it was related to running. Does that sound like a RA symptom? I know knees swell sometimes. I don't really have pain in the knee. > > thanks for your help/answers. > > Pam > > > > ---------------------------
Guest guest
Anyone with the faster heart rate and nervousness should be evaluated by a doctor for hyperthyroid. Run a search on " Graves' Disease " for more info on possible accompanying symptoms. Pam, I've written you personally with more detail on this. Don't know about Baker's cysts but someone else here with experience on that should be along soon to answer your question. Take care, Liz G
Guest guest
Pam I've noticed that I often have a racing pulse and almost palpitations (I'm only 39 and shouldn't have them yet!). I know I'm definately not fit at the moment due to my RA but it might be worth noting in future whether it coincides with a flare, and therefore increased due to raised infection levels. Something else to note in my diary. Carol rheumatic Faster heart rate >From: zendt@... > >Two questions: >A. I was just diagnosed with RA a few weeks ago. Guest guest
Yes, I had wondered if it had something to do with a flare. But I feel pretty darn good right now. No real soreness, swelling, nothing much. I am still sort of tired that's about it. Thanks for your response. Pam rheumatic Faster heart rate > > > >From: zendt@... > > > >Two questions: > >A. Guest guest
Pam: I, too, think you should get your thyroid checked. (I also have Graves disease and thyroid nodule). Seems that quite a few of us have thyroid related problems in addition to the RA and I recently found the following web site regarding thyroid: www.glandcentral.com Hope this helps. Babs RA 8/98, DX 4/99, AP 11/99 200 mg. Minocin 2.5 mg. Methotrexate 112 mcg. Synthroid 2 mg. Hytrin 10 mg. Lipitor Mestinon Vits. & Misc. Suplmts. Guest guest
Liz, Pam You are absolutely right Liz. I have Graves Disease and before treatment I had fluttery feelings in my chest, irregular heart beat and fast heartbeat, along with feeling cold all the time, purple blotches on the arms from feeling cold, tearing eyes, weakness and fatigue. I had it for 5 years before a doctor finally diagnosed it. The weakness and fluttery heart are the scariest feeling. Guest guest
check the side effects of all your meds. Also, depends on how long you are away from running that it may creep up. Also, increased heart rate is an indicator of allergies.
