post embolization discharge

Hi - I am new to this group. I really need some feedback.

I had a very severe bleeding spell about 2 months ago due to a huge

fibroid. They had to do an emergency Uterine Arterial Embolization -

I said no to a complete removal because I know they would have done a

hysterectomy - and that was not an option.

I recovered fairly well from the procedure - yet I had a fever for 7

days - which is always a possibility. I got a period 2 weeks later. I

thought eveything was fine. About 3 weeks ago - 5 weeks after

surgery - I started getting a discharge that concerned me. It is

pinkish and sticky - looks a bit like blood and pus. This started 3

weeks ago and has not stopped. It is as haevy as a light period. I

had a period - which was normal in the middle of that and thought the

discharge would stop - but after the period and now 2 weeks later I

still have the discharge. I am concerned and annoyed - I am dealing

with the same mess I had before the surgery - constant discharge.

I have a bit of crampy feeling - but no real pain. My doctor didn't

seem to know what it is. I think it must be an infection.

has anyone had this experience or any ideas?

I am calling the doctor again today but they don't seem to have much

info on the after effects of these procedures.

Many thanks, Liz

Liz,

I had UAE about 7 wks ago and also had a discharge for 2 wks after the

procedure, then a period. The period stopped and about 2 weeks later I also

got a pinkish discharge which lasted about a week.I did have a few slight

cramps, too. Nothing bad where I even had to take pain killer. I didn't

call the dr because I had no fever or anything else. I figured it was the

fibroids shrinking and a result of the UAE. Now I had a period last week and

am fine now. No discharge. I know some women on the embo group have posted

about discharges for a long time. If you are concerned you should call your

dr., but you are right sometimes they don't know for sure.

You should join the Yahoo " embo " group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/embo/. Many of the women have had UAE

and there are IRs who regularly answer questions.

Liz,

I had UAE about the same time you did and I too had a discharge along

w/ cramps (pretty severe at times, especially during my period which

there have been two so far).

My doctor put me on an antibiotic that knocked off the discharge

within two days of taking it and the cramping went away.

I'm waiting to see how I handle my next period w/ is next week to see

if I should have some form of intervention done.

I'm amazed that you escaped having a hysterectomy in your emergency

situation. Did you have your options lined up before hand?

Good luck.

Tami
