Guest guest
I totally agree with you, Pam. I don't scramble the eggs in butter so I don't add to the cholesterol content. As long as you don't eat beef and chicken in addition to your eggs every day, you're probably fine. My cholesterol is low, I don't have the exact figure, I'll get it from doc next time I talk to him. -Tori In a message dated Sat, 6 Jul 2002 7:05:09 PM Eastern Standard Time, pladd@... writes: > BUT the yoke's the best part ! > > So we could have a debate on eggs, or take a survey...but.. > Tori, you have the answer right there in those labs you had done the time > you had to fast. > > Go get them and see if you had high cholestrol. > > I eat many , many eggs, and so far had not had a problem > > But, Jody, you have reminded me I should check again. Guest guest
Hi again- Dawn here, I've read through the posts on this subject with interest. It sounds like you are trying so hard to do things that will get you feeling better, my heart goes out to you this can be a frustrating illness to get grips on as sometimes, even when you do things right, it all feels like it goes wrong. I thought I would share some of the seeming contradictions that came up for me when I was first diagnosed. Forgive me if this is long and winding, it seems to be the style in which I am thinking at the moment! I wanted to talk about vegoism... I really am NOT pushing you to give up vegetarianism. Several people suggeted to me that I should eat meat in the 18 months when I couldn't work out what was wrong with me as they said it was very grounding. I just wasn't ready to put dead things in my mouth (! - that is genuinely how I felt about meat for about 13 years, and often still feel. The thought of eating it made me feel ill), and I did not agree with the philosopy of eating animals when there were alternatives; my body wasn't craving it at this point either so I think I was probably right not to eat it. My friends' frustration that I wouldn't even try meat, just made me more determined not to give up my vegetarianism. I would still prefer to be veggie, but am afraid I need the protein at the moment. You and I sound very similar in some ways Tori - I too don't like the idea, but feel that it is okay to eat meat if you have to do it to stay alive. In the end, that IS how I felt about it... I felt it would help me recover and I wasn't feeding my body what it needed trying to do the vegie thing. I'd still go vegie now if I felt I could stay well on it. In all my searching to make myself feel better, I too went and looked for my blood type. I had been interested in the blood type diet, but totally dismissed it when I found my blood type is O neg and indicates that I should eat meat. I still haven't had another look at the blood type thing. Maybe I should look at it again now. On the cholestoral thing - Cholestoral, you probably already know, has an inverse relationship to thyroid hormones. So if you are hypO and your FT3 and FT4 are low, your cholestoral will probalby be elevated; conversely if you are hyper, and your FT3 and FT4 are high, this has a cholestoral lowering effect. I had been a vegetarian or vegan for 13 years when I first felt ill ... in retrospect, I think I was going through a hypo phase prior to my hyper phase, because my cholestoral was slightly elevated at that point. This was in spite of the fact that I had lost my appetite, had eaten no meat for over a decade, didn't eat eggs and only ate cheese occasionally cos I felt I had to. I think it is great that you are taking steps to address your health through diet, and am only mentioning this, because it is important to be aware of your thyroid status if you are eating the three eggs a day that you mention. If you suddenly go hypo due to the Anti thyroid drugs, you might have to think about cholestoral. I gave up drinking beer to try and feel better. I just felt worse. Beer has quite high levels of copper in it so I guess depriving myself of that source of copper might have had a negative effect. I gave up smoking and again, felt worse rather than better. In fact I think the thyrotoxicosis followed hard on the heels of successfully quitting. Others have said the same thing happened to them. It is vital to give up smoking for all sorts of reasons (for us, especially for our eyes) but I went from 20 to 0 a day and I think the impact may have been unsettling on my system. All of this is obviously anecdotal, but other people wrote similar things to me and I found it comforting to find that things hadn't gone as ecpected for them either!! I'm just passing it on! I ate heaps of green leafy vegetables... loads of them, and spinach and seaweed and miso - oh, and loads of garlic and loads of echinecha to help booste my immune system! I think the heavy iodine content probably didn't help me and I understand better now that boosting a dodgy immune system is not necessarily a good idea! The point I am trying to make is that I found in the early stages of doing this stuff that whenever I tried to make things beter I felt like I made them worse. It might have been making things worse, or it might just have been that I was getting iller whilst trying these things. All these things are hard to quantify. It is very frustrating. I did ditch the garlic in the end, but that was one thing that took me ages to surrender, as by that stage it was not just garlic itself, but a symbol in some sense of the way I understood things to be. It was like I felt I had to give up all my understanding of what ought to make me feel better, and start all over again, factoring Graves' in. I am interested to know why the doctor asked you to give up soy? It sort of doesn't make that much sense to me as when I was hyper, I ate lots of soy as it is a goitrogen and helps block the uptake of iodine into the thyorid gland. They tell people who are hypO to avoid soy products, but whilst you are hyper, I would have thought it would help. I ate loads of broccoli, cabbage, and wanted peanuts... also sweet potatoes as I recall... can't remember the other goitrogens (I found that these were the things my body was wanting) and drank pear juice... I believe pears are a goitrogen too? Hoping that you in all this chat and " advice " , you can't hear any criticism at all... it's just sharing information, mostly anecdotal at that. If it helps you that is great. Okay, gotta go DAWN ROSE >From: L@... >Reply-To: graves_support >To: graves_support >Subject: Re: Nutritional fasting >Date: Sat, 06 Jul 2002 22:34:36 -0400 > >I totally agree with you, Pam.
