Just being hypo for only about 2 or 3 weeks and I already wish I was hyper

again. As I write this I am getting cramps galore in my leg and hoping I can

get up and walk. At least there was no pain involve then. It just seems my

body isn't giving me a rest it takes turns with the swelling a couple of

days and then the cramps starts in. So I guess I will be dealing with

stomache pain in a couple of days LOL.Just for fun I'm thinking about making

a chart for myself and see if I'm right . That is how I'm dealing with all

the new symptoms.I believe in not feeling sorry for myself, so I have to

amuse myself even if my family thinks I'm going nuts.

Gosh,

I am just sitting here feeling sorry for all you folks who are " used " to

hyper symptoms and then having hypo symptoms. I had Hashi's first and then

hyper and then hypo again after RAI. I think symptoms of both are horrible.

Sorry we are all going thru this but glad we have each other........

Hi Marie,

Did they tell you that you need to take your hormone replacement on an empty

stomach, 1 hour before eating anything or 2 hours after eating anything and

to take it the same time every day?

Also, do NOT eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice for many many hours

after taking your hormone. It interfers with how it works.

Hi Marie, are you taking any supplements? I remember I used to get charlie

horses in my legs and arches of my feet and someone told me I needed

potassium and calcium - a banana and a glass of milk... and it would work.

Potassium will also help with the swelling.

I hope you get in to see your dr. SOON to get on replacement meds!

I vaguely recall from O level biology that dislike of grapefruit

can be due to inherited differences in the ability to taste.

I find grapefruits bitter - yuk - any other fruit is fine by me.

I think I missed the message where we got onto the taste of

grapefruit.

Simon,

>>>I think I missed the message where we got onto the taste of

NOt about the taste of it, but not taking it when we are on thyroid hormone

replacement meds. Many times people new to the hormone replacements are not

made aware of this but grapefruit interfers with how the meds work...so if

we do eat it or drink the juice it has to be several hours from when we take

meds.

I don't care for the grapefruit, but I love the grapefruit juice and it is a

wonderful diet aid.

Someone said they didn't like it.

Ah I see - curious.

Pineapple juice is a potent mixer with some medications,

although I've only seen it warned about with antirejection drug

cyclosporin.... I wonder what else lurks in our diets. In the

case of cyclosporin, and some others, pineapple juice increases

the effect.

As I said the taste preference is in part genetic, does this

make one of us a mutant ;)
