Hi

Dr. 's name comes up over and over on the archives. I believe she's

one of the best in this area. Also dr. Michell Levine from Cambridge, MA also

very well known for his myos.

My prayers are with you,

Lynette

Hello, I'm really new here and haven't had my surgery

yet, but the doctor I am working with is Sandy Mason

at Beth Israel (which I think is also part of Brigham

& Womens). I've only had a preliminary meeting with

her so far but I liked her...

Best to you,

I live in the Boston area, too. I saved one post from someone who

recommended Dr. (see

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/message/28062 in the archives).

One woman compiled a list of doctors that women in various fibroid

discussion groups have recommended:

http://www.public.iastate.edu/~lkwetter/Docs.html. Dr. is one of

the Mass. doctors on the list.

I'm having a hysterectomy on Tuesday and is the surgeon. I

know she does myos as well. She's the head of the Center for Uterine Fibroids

at the Brigham and is very good at outlining all of one's options when it

comes to dealing with fibroids. I found her open, willing to answer

questions, willing to accommodate a patient's wishes, and most of all, she

listens to what you have to say. I went to her for a second opinion and she

pretty much said the same thing that the first gyn said. However, I switched

to her because I was impressed with her knowledge and the fact that she

listened carefully and answered all of my questions.

BI is a different hospital and not connected with the Brigham. However, both

are Harvard Univ. teaching hospitals. The Brigham merged with Mass. General

and formed Partners Health Care and BI merged with Deaconness.

I may have been the one who recommended Dr. . I'm having a

hysterectomy on 1/28 and she's the surgeon. What impressed me most about her

was that she was willing to outline all the ways of dealing with fibroids

with respect to the individual's situation. She's a good listener and is very

willing to answer questions. She'll give you all kinds of information and

articles to read, etc. if you want that. I went to her for a second opinion

and decided that I was much more comfortable with her than the first gyn I

went to see. Her recommendation wasn't much different from that of the first

gyn, but I feel much better about my decision, mostly because she was willing

to listen to my concerns and talk to me about pros/cons, etc.

No, I'm still in the information-gathering phase myself. When my

gynecologist found my fibroid 2 years ago (it was 6 cm back then), I

wasn't planning on trying to conceive and I had no symptoms, so she

said there was no reason to have it removed. I later decided that I

did want to get pregnant, but it was a few months after my annual gyn

checkup, and I just decided to go ahead and give it a try. This was

not as much of a spur-of-the-moment decision as it might sound ;) To

my surprise, I was pregnant within 6 months. I probably will try to

have a second child, but I think I will have the fibroid removed

first, as it has grown to 12 cm and has caused some discomfort during

the pregnancy.

Another great physician is Dr. Isaacson at Newton Wellesley,

they have the new Minimally Invasive Gyn Surgery Center

(www.migscenter.org) My Ob/Gyn referred me to him and he is great.

Also teaches at Harvard. Since I am involved in the healthcare

field and know many physicians, he was highly recommended by other

docs. Good luck!

I am interested in Dr. Isaacson as I was also referred to him by

another doctor. Have you had any procedures performed by him so far

or know any women who have?
